  • Get on court in the UAE capital.

Here’s your chance to be part of the region’s largest mass-participation tennis competition with the Abu Dhabi Tennis Cup returning next month.

To be held between April 1 to 27 at Zayed Sports City, the tournament has become one of the most popular events not just in the UAE but across the region. And with registration closing on March 25, you can see for yourself why it’s highly-rated.

Powered by Under Armour and supported by Wilson, it is unique because players can enter in multiple categories – allowing juniors to play with older players while also testing themselves against the best in the country.

“This year is particularly exciting for the Abu Dhabi Tennis Cup because Under Armour is powering the tournament,” said Tony Kouris, general manager at Zayed Sports City.

“They’re a great brand and to have their support, as well as that of Wilson, who has been behind us since day one, really speaks to the calibre of the event. Every year since 2013 the cup is becoming more and more popular, such as a 20 per cent increase in registrations last year. The 2018 edition will have an even stronger turnout, representing the full range of possibilities in the sport, from kids in their first tournament to former pro players and coaches.”

He added: “The Abu Dhabi Tennis Cup is one of the ways Zayed Sports City is helping to improve the profile of tennis in the UAE. With great professional events, such as the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, helping to increase interest, we saw that there was no community tournament with the same excitement. It has all of our favourite parts of a great tournament: challenging players at your same age or ability, or even those with professional experience; meeting other tennis players from around the country and region; and of course the excitement from competition itself. This combination also supports building the tennis community to be even stronger, and it has a snowball effect.”

There are 20 categories on the schedule across different age groups for juniors and adults. There’s even more reason to sign up considering all winners will be awarded with some attractive prizes.

Entry fees vary by division, from Dh84 to Dh158, with matches scheduled on weekday nights and weekends.

“Everyone who plays tennis can find a way to participate in the Abu Dhabi Tennis Cup,” added Kouris. “It’s all about participation, challenge, and the community spirit of a lifelong sport. It’s a balance of everything that a tennis player looks for. There are elements of development, socialisation and of course exhilaration of the contest itself. We are really honoured to be putting this on and welcome everyone to join us.”
