Fitness enthusiasts in Dubai can now train in a spacious fitness facility at Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre.

Optimal Fitness at Natural Elements is all set to welcome members and guests at the next stage of the hotel’s fitness centre.

The newly-renovated fitness centre was launched on May 7, 2018 in partnership with Optimal Fitness and will continue its commitment to enhance the lives of its guests by providing pioneering techniques and advanced wellness services.

David Labouchere, founder of Optimal Fitness, welcomed the media and guests and explained the ethos behind the introduction of new equipment, comprehensive offerings and personal training sessions.

Guests were taken on a tour to get a first-hand experience of the newest fitness offerings and were later served an assortment of healthy light bites, fresh fruit smoothies from the fitness centre’s cozy cafe.

Boasting a spacious layout with high-tech equipments, the renovations at the fitness centre range from comprehensive workout programs at the fully equipped gym to group exercise programs.

Personalised trainers were on hand to assist invitees to workout at the new fit-outs and they also conducted mini demos of different fitness forms at the Free Training Zone.

The spacious training zone is ideal for functional training, bodyweight training, aerobic or anaerobic conditioning as well as TRX and CrossFit, under the watchful eye of trained instructors.

Besides offering world-class amenities and equipment, the renovations also include a dedicated Yoga studio allowing guests and members to rejuvenate and relax through group yoga sessions, guided by an expert.

For members favouring a more robust exercise routine, the team of trained experts assist with boxing, wrestling and additional help to achieve their desired fitness goals.

Optimal Fitness believes in movement and functional strength as a foundation of health and they advocate exercise and movement patterns based around the spine.

The new programming will encourage a holistic approach of appropriate rest, nutrition, and exercise – including body weight and Olympic weight lifting practices – to develop balanced, agile, lean, functional and robust bodies.

Stay healthy this Ramadan

With Ramadan approaching, Zayed Sports City (ZSC) Academy is offering a fun coaching programme to learn and develop your tennis skills over the Holy month.

To be held every Sunday and Tuesday from May 20 to June 5, the sessions are open to novice and beginners who will learn techniques, tactics and rules while putting your knowledge to the test in fun and friendly matches against the coaches.

Last year proved to be a huge success with 85 per cent of participants saying that would continue playing tennis following the programme. If you want to see why it’s rated so highly, there’s still time to join.

“The ZSC Academy began the Ramadan beginner’s tennis programme last year and we were thrilled that it reached capacity,” said Tony Kouris, general manager of Zayed Sports City.

“The response after it finished was an even bigger compliment. That activity had near perfect ratings with 85 per cent saying they would likely continue playing tennis. We’re looking forward to even greater success this year.”

ZSC Academy has continued to go from strength to strength since launching and Kouris insists the programme is a great step to learning a fun sport.

“Tennis is growing in popularity and while it is easy to get kids into lessons, many adults are interested to learn the sport but don’t know where to start,” he added.

“We developed this programme to be an unintimidating introduction, with professional and friendly coaches who can break down the game into simple components. The Ramadan beginner’s tennis programme is about getting adults into the sport, making it fun and a part of their lifelong health.

“Hosting it in Ramadan is intentional as well. Health is one of many blessings we have and at a time when it would be otherwise easy to let exercise slide on the list of priorities, this programme is a great option for bringing it back into focus.”

Classes take place between 22:00 and 23:00 and costs Dh630. With more than a week to go until the first class, Kouris says there are many reasons why you should join.

“Any adult that wants to give tennis a try is certain to benefit,” he said. “We’ve designed it specifically for adult learners, presenting technical and tactical elements in a fun and relaxed environment, and we’ve considered pricing and timing carefully to make sure that tennis is achievable for everyone during the holy month.”

As the weather heats up, City Football Schools will head indoors for their fifth term of the season and will be offering specific Ramadan timings throughout the Holy Month.

Ramadan sessions will run on both Mondays and Wednesdays, from May 13 to June 28, between 20:00 – 22:00 at the Mubadala Arena, Zayed Sports City to make it more convenient for children to remain active and for their families to take them to their sessions.

In addition to the Ramadan sessions on offer, Term Five will also see week day sessions taking place at New York University Abu Dhabi and Emirates Palace earlier in the evening.

Built on the same philosophy and training programme of the Manchester City Academy back in England, City Football Schools has gone from strength to strength in teaching the UAE’s stars of tomorrow and is now one of the top academies in the country.
