Great competition: The tournament attracts UAE national and expats

Zayed Sports City’s Ramadan Bowling tournament is already under way but there’s still time for you to join and be in with a chance of reigning supreme.

Since the event, supported by ADNOC, began on May 13, there has been no shortage of numbers descending on the capital every night as they test themselves against the region’s best bowlers.

The Determination Division ended on Monday but qualifying is still open for the Youth, Graded and Open categories.

Zayed Sports City are no strangers to hosting their Ramadan bowling tournament with previous years proving huge success. And their general manager Tony Kouris, believes 2018 will be no different.

“We are very excited to bring back the Ramadan Bowling Tournament thanks to the generous support of ADNOC,” he said. “It embodies community in a very unique way, with divisions to involve everyone amongst a diverse population. Throughout the years the attendance continues to increase, more Emiratis are participating and we’ve added a division for people with determination, which speaks to not only the success of the tournament, but also its importance to the UAE’s sport landscape.”

He added: “This tournament is quite fun in that the challenge never stops, with elements of talent, strategy and a big dose of competitive camaraderie. Anyone can participate in the Open division and we also have categories for amateur bowlers, youth and people of determination, so everyone has a fair chance to compete.”

Bowlers must participate in at least 3 series’(two for youth) which consists of three games in order to quality. Bowlers can take part in as many as series as they wish, with the top three being used to determine ranking for each bowler.

With a cash prize of Dh140,000, Kouris expects competition to be fierce which bodes well for competitors and spectators.

“Rankings change every night as bowlers try to beat previous scores and the participants are always pushing each other to do better. With Dh140,000 in cash prizes on the line, including a nightly prize, the format is interesting to join and watch,” he said.

With tennis, rugby and football just some of the sports that are staged at the venue, the Ramadan bowling tournament is significant for Zayed Sports City every year.

“The Ramadan Bowling Tournament has been a much anticipated event since the Khalifa International Bowling Centre opened in 1999,” added Kouris. “To be hosting it again in the Year of Zayed is something we, and our supporter ADNOC, are very proud of. Bowling is truly welcoming of everyone, and in Ramadan we will see people young, old, determined, professional and social, from varied nationalities and backgrounds, playing alongside each other on our 40 lanes.

“The togetherness element, central to the Ramadan spirit, is really embodied through the tournament and beyond that we get to encourage a healthy lifestyle. It’s integral to our mission and we continue to be humbled by its success.”

Reform Athletica, the new boutique fitness studio in Dubai, has officially opened its doors to the public.

Nestled away in the prime location on Jumeirah Beach Road, Jumeirah 1, Reform Athletica is a one-of-a-kind fitness studio that differentiates itself from other workout offerings in the market.

Inspired by the vibrant fitness scenes of New York, London and Los Angeles, the energetic studio launches with a brand philosophy of offering ‘accessible fitness for all’ and focuses on the maintenance of fitness at all stages of life as an enjoyable part of a regular fitness routine.

“Reform Athletica is a product of our love for fitness and art. We were inspired by our personal experience of the benefits of regular Pilates and TRX exercise and decided to open our own studio designed to represent our vision of the ideal exercise space,” said Dina ElShurafa, founder of Reform Athletica.

Offering fun, addictive exercise in a comfortable, intimate and personal environment, the new luxury, exclusive studio ensures their classes are capped at 10-12 people at a time, promising customers a personal training experience in a group environment.

The fitness studio will offer their signature classes – called Reform Method and TRX Athletica – that are all designed to effectively combine strength, endurance, cardio and flexibility training, resulting in a full body workout in every session.

Personal training is also available in two beautifully designed private studios.

Reform Athletica has sought to work with other local home-grown brands such as Nai, Spill the Bean and Koldpress juice, that share the same passion and vision of giving back to the community and making a difference by raising environmental awareness.

Excellent equipment is available for all users.

The new feel-good positive destination promotes health, balance and the importance of being environmentally-friendly, all housed in an artistic hub filled with creative displays by the likes of Mandy Barker – whose work is motivated to raise awareness about plastic pollution in the world’s oceans whilst highlighting the harmful effects on marine life and ultimately ourselves.

Reform Athletica promises that no prior experience is required for any class with a brand philosophy of accessible fitness for all.
