Race to Bahrain is giving triathletes who are getting ready to compete in the upcoming Challenge Bahrain an opportunity for a final tune-up.
The one-off race, sanctioned by the Dubai Sports Council and organised by Super Sports Events and Race ME, is perfect preparation for December’s Challenge Bahrain and takes place on this Friday at Mamzar.
The registration for the race closes at midnight tonight and athletes can enter by visiting www. supersportsevents.me. All entries must be in advance and no registrations will be accepted on the morning of the race.
Even if you’re not heading to Bahrain next month, the race is a good challenge and open to anyone of all ages and abilities. Bring your family and friends to compete as individuals or as a team of two to three people.
The individual categories will feature Super Sprint with distances of 200m swimming, 8km cycling and 2.5km running for the under- 12 category and 375m, 8km and 2.5km for the 13-18 and 19 and over categories.
In the sprint, juniors, 19-39, 40-49 and 50-99 categories will race distances of 750m, 24km and 5km. Finally, in Olympic category, the same age groups will do distances of 1.5km, 40km and 10km. In the teams category, there will be three age groups for the super sprint in under 12, 13-18 and 19 and over.
The sprint and Olympic will each have one category for all ages. Race to Bahrain organisers are expecting over 220 entries.
“Following the very successful Dubai International Triathlon we organised a fortnight ago, this sport is growing on a daily basis and we are excited about offering all triathletes in the region the opportunity of competing in an extra race in the calendar and look forward to seeing all down there over the weekend,” said Paul Venn from Race ME.
All athletes will receive electronic timing, online certificates and have their results and pictures posted to Facebook, while each finisher will earn a custom-made medal and goody bag with promotional products and vouchers from sponsors.
Registration on the day of the race opens at 05:30, with the race briefing at 06:45, the start of the races at 07:00 and the prize ceremony at 10:30. Take advantage of this final chance to get in form for Bahrain or just have fun.
