Ice skating is one the activities children can do

Ice-skating, bowling and football are just some of the activities children can enjoy at Zayed Sports City’s (ZSC) Kids Holiday Camp this summer.

Running from July 8 to August 16, youths aged between five and 12 can escape the heat and stay active with plenty of things to do every day.

ZSC are no strangers when it comes to holiday camps with the summer’s edition being their sixth year, while they also host other camps throughout the year. Every year, it’s been a massive hit and 2018 is set to be no different.

“ZSC Kids Holiday Camp has welcomed thousands of children since it launched and this year we look forward to seeing new and returning faces,” said Tony Kouris, general manager at Zayed Sports City. “It has become a staple on the school break calendar for many families in the capital and something that is looked forward to year in and year out.”

He added: “Our campers are kept busy with a variety of activities through the day. When kids arrive they get to participate in free play, including board games, movies and pick-up sports while they wait for their group-mates to arrive.

“Then they will be split by ages and head into an organised activity or sport. The diary has team-building games, indoor football, ice skating, bowling, arts and crafts, games, races and more. We’re keeping them engaged and interactive all day.”

With it being held from 08:00 to 17:30, it is Abu Dhabi’s longest all-inclusive camp day. It costs Dh1,050 per week with discounts available for siblings and multiple sessions.

With a few days to go until the fun begins, Kouris says there’s plenty of positives on why parents should enroll their children.

“There are so many reasons to get involved in ZSC Kids Holiday Camp,” he added. “It offers great value for money and is the longest camp day in the capital, which is perfect for busy families.

“Besides the practical reasons, camp promises to keep children active and engaged in many ways, which is important to their physical, emotional and psychological health and wellbeing. We work hard to improve the experience of camp each session and we’re looking forward to another busy season which is sure to be the best yet.”

Paul Dickov will be in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday

Manchester City fans, here’s your chance to hear from Paul Dickov on Tuesday when the ex-striker takes your questions in a special Q and A session in Abu Dhabi.

The 45-year-old will be in the UAE this week as part of Manchester City’s Trophy Tour and, during his time in the capital, will be interacting with fans ahead of England’s last-16 tie against Colombia.

Dickov will be sharing his stories at the Southern Sun Hotel in Abu Dhabi from 20:00 where you can pick the brains of the former Scotland international. Once that session finishes, you and your friends can also enjoy the crucial England game when kicks off at 22:00.

In a career spanning more than 20 years, Dickov has played for a number of teams in England including Arsenal, Leeds United, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City. But it was at Manchester City where he was a key player for the Sky Blues.

Having joined from Arsenal in 1996, Dickov became an integral playerfor City, making 158 appearances until he left in 2002. During that period he scored 35 goals and played a pivotal role in City’s promotion to the Premier League in 2000. After leaving Manchester, he had spells with Leicester and Blackburn, before returning to the Etihad Stadium in 2006 for a second spell, where he played 16 times.

Having hung up his boots seven years ago, Dickov has plenty of knowledge and experience of the game to pass on and will be sharing that and answering your questions on Tuesday evening.

Once that session is finished, you can watch England’s World Cup round of 16 match against Colombia. Gareth Southgate’s side will go into the match following a 1-0 loss to Belgium in their final group game, but they will fancy their chances of victory after convincing wins against Panama and Tunisia.

Their opponents Colombia topped their group but there are question marks over their star midfielder James Rodriguez after he limped off in their last game against Senegal.

Whoever wins that game will face either Sweden or Switzerland in the quarter-finals. 2010 world champions Spain are likely to stand in their way in the semi-final should La Roja overcome their first two knockout matches.

Tuesday evening promises to be great night out and with Dickov hosting the session, and it’s definitely one not to miss.

Teams will be tested in seven different challenges.

Another new adventure is headed to Dubai with the Rush-A-Way Summer Challenge, set to physically and mentally test participating teams in a variety of ways.

Although the early bird registration has passed, teams can still sign up for the event, which will take place on Friday, August 10 at various stops across the emirate.

If you’ve never taken part in a Rush-A-Way challenge before, the premise is simple. Teams will explore Dubai by moving from one challenge to the next across the city until all seven are completed, with the top team earning the grand prize and bragging rights.

Each challenge will offer a different test, with aspects like teamwork, stamina, strategy, communication skills, quick thinking and speed required.

With it being summer and the heat ratcheted up, this edition will take place at indoor locations, meaning there’s nothing to sweat as you zoom through the challenge.

Form a team of three to four members by gathering friendly or family. All members must be at least 16 years old and at least one member must have a valid UAE driving license to travel from location to location.

Though the challenges won’t be revealed in advance, you can expect something along the lines of previous editions, which featured activities like go-karting, calisthenics, escape game, archery and more.

Teams will earn points based on how fast they complete each challenge, and those that don’t finish in the given time will receive a penalty. At the end, the team with the highest score at the finish line will earn the title and grand prize, worth Dh10,000.

The regular registration fee, which is available until July 31, is Dh630 for teams of three and Dh840 for teams of four. After that, the last minute registration will cost Dh660 for teams of three and Dh880 for teams of four.

Included in the fee is an international buffet lunch and gift vouchers.

If you think you and your team have what it takes to overcome the rest of the field and win the ultimate prize, sign up today and get ready to conquer seven unique challenges.
