For any youngster wanting to learn the basics of cricket or enhance their skills this summer, then look no further than the ICC Academy.
The Dubai-based venue is the place to be for kids with lots of activities, coaching sessions and camps available for children of all ages.
The Babyshop cricket camp returns on July 29 giving children between 7 and 10 the opportunity to develop their confidence and learn the basics of the game.
They will learn batting and fielding skills as well as playing fun cricket theme games every day. On top of that, there are also daily prizes to win as part of their fun competitions and giveaways.
Classes run from 09:00 to 12:00 and costs Dh650 per week or Dh130 per day plus VAT. The camp is held 29 July – 2 August, 5 to 9 August and 19 to 23 August.
For young cricketers, who have playing experience under their belt, can sign up for the ICC Academy’s development course.
Overseen by specialist Level 3 coaches, the course will focus on improving batting and bowling techniques while also fine-tuning their fielding skills. The course, which costs Dh350 for two sessions plus VAT, will run from July 29 to 31 and August 7-9 between 14:00 to 16:00.
For the first time, ICC Academy will also be hosting My Sports Academy Summer Camp where children will be able to enjoy a variety of activities including the sports zone, the splash zone, the creative zone, the imagination zone and game zone.
It will include football, dodgeball, basketball, crafts, imagination and games. There will also be Babyshop entertainers on hand putting on kids activities and entertainment including puppet shows and magic. Those wanting to spend the full day at the ICC Academy can also enjoy a special cricket coaching session which will commence after the multi-sport camp.
Already under way, the camp has been a big success and kids can see why it’s highly rated with it running from 22-26 July, 12-16 August and 26-30 August. The multi-activity camp will be held from 09:00 to 14:00 while the cricket add-on is from 14:00 to 16:00.
In what will be a busy summer, Will Kitchen, general manager at ICC Academy, believes there are many positives on why parents should enroll their children.
“Our summer cricket programmes have always been popular,” he said. “The opportunity for children to come to ICC and take advantage of our indoor facility has always been compelling. This year, we have adopted a different approach to the camps having listened to what parents and players have told us.
“Junior visitors to ICC Academy will see that we have a number of different offerings to suit a broader audience and to ensure we provide young people with a broad, high quality experience.”

The temperature might be rising but newbies can pick up the game and develop their skills this summer at The Peter Cowen Academy at Emirates Golf Club.
Their new package is suitable for beginners who want to learn the basics and enhance their knowledge in a sport that is widely played in the UAE.
Priced at Dh345 per person, the programme is divided into three 45-minute sessions inclusive of an introduction, short game, long game, putting and on-course play. Each class will cover the fundamentals of the game as well as other areas like golf swing mechanics, body motion, ball striking and the art of the short game.
On top of that, you don’t need to purchase your own clubs with all guests receiving complimentary equipment hire and practice balls to use over the week.
The package was only launched this year but Stephen Deane, head golf professional at Emirates Golf Club, says there’s already been strong interest so far.
“The package is brand new, however we have received a lot of interest from residents looking to get into the game of golf,” he said. “Our previously launched “Learn Golf in a Week package” was extremely successful and gained tremendous attraction at the club.”
Deane believes there’s many positives on why people should take advantage of this offer.
“The package provides a great introduction to the game of golf, it enables participants to get an introduction to the game,” he said.

For cricket fans in the UAE, the Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy is one not to miss with Chris Gayle and Albie Morkel just some of the stars to take to the field later this year.
From October 4 to 6, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium will be the venue for the inaugural competition where some of the top franchises in T20 cricket are set to battle for glory.
Yorkshire Vikings of England, Afghanistan’s Boost Defenders, Big Bash League’s Hobart Hurricanes, Pakistan Super League’s Lahore Qalandars and South Africa’s most successful T20 outfit Multiply Titans have all been confirmed so far. Organisers Abu Dhabi Cricket in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council will announce the sixth and final team at a later date with them promising it will be the ‘same calibre’ of players.
That list includes Gayle, who is set to feature for The Boost Defenders, while Pakistan’s Yasir Shah is part of the Qalandars’ squad. South African veteran Morkel will be leading the Titans while England pace ace Tymal Mills will don Hobart Hurricanes’ shirt.
Tickets and hospitality packages are now available, with general admission tickets starting from just Dh25. These can be purchased through Ticketmaster.ae, Virgin Megastores and the Zayed Cricket Stadium box office.
Matt Boucher, acting CEO of Abu Dhabi Cricket, believes it’s an opportunity not to miss. “It will be a fantastic family event where there will be double-headers for each of the days,” he said. “It’s a new start for cricket in Abu Dhabi and is a fantastic offering. There will be high quality cricket and hope the community comes out and support us.
“Given the considerable number of sub continental, British, South African, and Australian residents in Abu Dhabi, the wider UAE and Gulf region, we are confident of packing the increased 24,000 capacity of the iconic Zayed Cricket Stadium.”
He added: “We’re looking forward to delivering a wonderful experience for our fans at the stadium but the tournament will certainly not be contained to the stands. We expect millions around the world to follow the action on TV, radio and social media – again, cementing Abu Dhabi’s position on the international cricket scene.”
