One of the toughest and most famous running events in the region, the Wadi Bih Run, is set to return for a second time in 2018 as organisers launch a new edition of the race that will take place in the stunning mountains of Hatta on November 9.
Complimenting the traditional Wadi Bih Run, which takes place annually at the start of the year in Dibba, Oman, the UAE version will be organised by the same event organisers in partnership with global fitness brand Reebok and will feature familiar race categories.
Participants can choose from the Team 70km, Team 35km, Solo 70km, Solo 35km, Solo 20km along with a special 2.5km run exclusively for children.
Responding to popular demand of runners to offer another Wadi Bih style race in the annual running calendar, organisers will replicate many elements of the much-loved event in the similar surroundings of Hatta, while removing the need for runners to cross the border into Oman.
A camping area will be prepared at the start, within Hatta Fort Hotel’s grounds, that will be open to participants in the event the night before race day and a small recreational village will be set up at the venue, which will include a lunch area, an activation zone, pool access, Reebok rest and recovery areas and more.
Commenting on the new event, race director Neil Young said: “The Reebok Wadi Bih Run grows in popularity every year and is now firmly established as the premier long distance running challenge in the region. We hope that by launching a second November event in Hatta we will be able to inspire new runners to take part, whilst giving those who love the Wadi Bih Run an opportunity for another test in the annual running calendar”
Speaking on Reebok’s support for the Wadi Bih Run Hatta, Head of Brand Activations MENA, Nathalie Khouri, said the key focus for the brand was to continue supporting the ambitions of the regions running and fitness community.
“Our goal is to support every runner and fitness enthusiast, no matter what their ability, to get outside and get active,” said Khouri. “This is why we have come together with the Wadi Bih team to create a second Wadi Bih event in the UAE that will see more runners, more beautiful scenery and more fun! We can’t wait to help participants achieve their goals, whether that means setting a new personal best time or just getting to the finish line.”
It’s already been two months since Abu Dhabi City Golf Club started their ‘Summer in the City’ promotion but you can see for yourself why it’s an offer not to miss.
Having started on May 15, their special coaching deals have been a big success and with it running until September 15, there’s still time to purchase the deal.
A three-hour lesson costs Dh999, which includes membership to the academy for one month and one green fee, while a five-hour class costs Dh1,599 (two month membership and two green fees). There is also a 10-hour class available costing Dh2,999, which includes three months academy membership and five green fees.
Even if you’re not a golfer, you can take advantage of their Summer Academy membership for Dh999. This includes unlimited use of their driving range, access to their tennis courts and swimming pool plus member discounts.
On top of that, just on Sundays, you can play 18 holes of golf for Dh150 or nine holes for Dh99 inclusive of VAT which includes free access to the pool.
ADCGC’s previous summer promotions have been hugely popular and Dave Taylor, head PGA professional at Abu Dhabi City Golf Club, is confident 2018 will be no different.
“We hope to offer everyone a place to escape the heat, enjoy an active past time and an activity that doesn’t involve going to the mall. There is no better time to take advantage of our shaded driving range, air conditioned swing room and discount prices,” he said.
“Every year this has been a very popular promotion for us with lots of golfers taking advantage of the offers at the academy, on the golf course and membership benefits.”
He added: “For the first time our promotion this year includes unlimited use of the driving range and includes green fees to allow golfers to play the course. This means all golfers, whether experienced or first time golfers, can learn, improve and play their best golf ever through the summer months all ready for the perfect Abu Dhabi golf season that starts at the end of September. As the only fully covered driving range in Abu Dhabi, there is no better place to practice in the shade, or in our air conditioned swing room.
And Taylor insists there’s plenty of reasons on why people should sign up.
“With fantastic discounts and lots of additional benefits there is no better time to start golf or improve your golf. Our expert team of welcoming and supportive PGA teaching professionals will help you with all your needs and show you why we are Abu Dhabi’s favourite golf academy.”

In what will be a busy summer, Will Kitchen, general manager at ICC Academy, believes there are many positives on why parents should enroll their children.
“Our summer cricket programmes have always been popular,” he said. “The opportunity for children to come to ICC and take advantage of our indoor facility has always been compelling. This year, we have adopted a different approach to the camps having listened to what parents and players have told us.
“Junior visitors to ICC Academy will see that we have a number of different offerings to suit a broader audience and to ensure we provide young people with a broad, high quality experience.”
