All to play for: About 300 people are expected to take part in this Saturday’s races at Jebel Ali Golf Hotel.

The third race of the JLL Triathlon series is this Saturday, and you have until 18:00 today if you want to be involved in the event.

– #Quiz360: WIN a six-month Target Gym membership

– Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

– Sport360's Sports Industry Awards

With the triathlon involving a swim, run and bike ride, it’s a perfect opportunity for people to get to grips with the multi-discipline sport that is fast growing not just in the world but in the UAE.

Starting and finishing at the Jebal Ali Golf Hotel in Dubai at 06:45, the event will involve two distances; Super Sprint and Sprint Triathlon.

The Super Sprint distance involves a 375m swim followed by a 10km bike ride and the 2.5km run. This category is ideal for those who are beginners and are less experience in sports.

And for those who want to push themselves further can enter the Sprint Distance, which consists of a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride before running five kilometers to the finish line.

Anyone aged 11 and above can take part with organisers Race. ME setting different nine options. There are five categories in the Super Sprint – Junior (11-14years), Youth (15-18), Open (19-39), Vet (40-49) and Super Vet (50 plus). And the Sprint category consists of four – Youth (15-18), Open (19- 39), Vet (40-49) and Super Vet (50 plus).

Take to the water: The first stage of the triathlon will see competitors take on a challenging wim.

Paul Venn, of Race.ME, said: “We’ve had around 250 people sign up which is a great number given the fact that it’s the start of the new year. And it’s certainly more than we have had achieved last year.

“The capacity is 300 so we’re not far off from where we are in terms of reaching the target. We keep the capacity at 300 because safety is very important to us and ensure there is enough room for people to undertake the aquathlon.”

And he’s urging more people to take part even if they’ve not experienced the sport before.

He said: “Anyone who feels they’ve not done much exercise over the festive period then this is a great way to start and become a more healthy and leading lifestyle.

“Don’t think you can’t do it because everyone can. We have got two distances unlike the other races that we’ve held previously which is ideal for anyone who is new to the sport or not.”

He added: “The event is certainly going to be enjoyable and challenging. You don’t need to be the best swimmer, rider or runner to compete. If you don’t have a bike, there are a lot of shops in the country where you can hire one and come on down. People will certainly be surprised on how enjoyable it is.

“The UAE has perfect weather and it’s a great opportunity for people to do more outdoor events and be pro-active. And the triathlon happens to be one of those sports that are outdoors.”
