  • Push yourself: The DXB Gauntlet obstacle course can be enjoyed by people of all abilities.

An all new obstacle race is set to take place this weekend, and if you think you have what it takes then head to the Dubai International Marine Club, Mina Seyahi.

The DXB Gauntlet, organised by Fitness Link, will take place Friday and Saturday between 08:00 and 19:00.

It is a first-of-its-kind event where competitors will be pushed to the limits as their strength, co-ordination and balance skills will be tested by overcoming various obstacles.

Unlike other obstacle courses you will not be running fast to your next challenge. In fact, no running is required. Instead you will have to navigate your way through over 30 obstacles within a 30m x 30m area in the fastest possible time.

The course will feature a combination of fitness, co-ordination and tactics, and you will need to utilise them all to complete the unique challenge.

You don’t have to be an advanced athlete to take part, it’s open to men and women of all fitness levels aged 18 and over. You can take tackle the course individually or with a group of friends at any time between 08:00 and 19:00.

Competitors can expect to climb, crawl, as well as balance and coordinate their way through the course. Obstacles will include a spider web, quarter pipe, parallel bars, tunnel crawl, monkey bars, rope bridge, A-frames, 45 degree wall, sponge pool, balance beam, sack jump, hanging gauntlet as well as a few secret twists.

The event will have four age cat- egories: 18- 29 years, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 plus. Besides trophies for the top-three finishers, winners of each category will bag Dh1,000 while runners-up will receive Dh500. And the third placed finishers receive Dh250.

On top of that, spot prizes will be given out throughout both days. Registration costs Dh150 and can be done in person on both days. Grant Goes, organiser of the event, promises it will an challenge that all people will enjoy.

“It’s a good obstacle race. It’s not as daunting as people may think it is,” he said. “Participants will learn how to overcome obstacles themselves by using their mind and body to tackle anything that they are faced with.”

“What makes this different from the other similar races that are held in the UAE such as the Wadi Adventure Race (WAR) is this involves hardly any running. So this is a great way to learn something new which will be very enjoyable but challenging for anyone who takes part.

“There will be cash prizes for the top three finishers. We’ve made it a lot more inclusive for people and there’s everything to play for as there will be no overall winner in the event.”

If you don’t want to compete then you can still be part of the proceedings as a spectator.

With it being held on the sidelines of the Weight Loss Show, it’s a perfect opportunity for friends and family to take pictures and cheer the competitors as they make their way through the course.

“There will be a music on the day and there will be a lot of people there as it’s on the sidelines of the Weight Loss Show,” said Goes. “It will be very cool for people to come down and watch as it will be a vibrant atmosphere.”
