– Car of the week: Hyundai Sonata 2.0-litre Turbo
– Lifestyler: Multi-tasking stretch for athletes
So far, more than 120 people have signed up and will flock to the Anantara, The Palm Resort and Spa in Dubai on Friday, October 9, but there’s time to join them with registration still open.
With all funds raised donated to the Safe and Sound Breast Cancer awareness campaign, organisers Ignite are calling everyone to get involved.
Besides the three events – Open, Sprint and Junior which will see the participants compete in various distances in swimming and running – there is an extra incentive for those who compete in the Fun Run.
Whether you walk, run or jog in the Fun Run, Ignite are encouraging all to bring their props, costumes and their fun gear as the best fancy fun dressed will win an afternoon high tea experience at the Burj Al Arab.
“Whether it is wearing a full costume of one’s favourite superhero or daring to create your own fancy fun dress from head to toe, parents, children of all ages and even sports teams are welcome to enjoy this friendly competition,” said Guillaume Mariole, founder and managing director for Ignite fitness & wellness.
“We want to see how creative you can be.” He added: “Pink is Punk’s aim is to support the noble cause of breast cancer awareness by promoting sports and healthy lifestyles. Having Burj Al Arab on board this year for this amazing prize is another great reason to join the event. Besides, the venue at Anantara The Palm is beautiful so I’m sure everyone will have a great time.”
Now in its fifth edition, the event has gone from strength to strength with growing numbers of competitors and companies involved in the proceedings.
Ian Spendlove, founder and chief executive officer of Showforce, whose company has supported the project since the first edition, said: “Everything about this day is good for so many reasons. All ages get to participate in the Swim:Run and all for a cause that has probably touched so many families in this world.”
Entry fees vary between Dh70 and Dh250, and all participants will receive a goody bag, while prizes will be up for grabs in each category.
And if you’re not competing, then why not purchase a ticket and watch the action unfold? Tickets will be available on the day or online.

If you’re searching for a unique way to spend your upcoming Eid holidays, look no further than the wet and wild fun of Du Live City Slide.
The longest waterslides you’ll likely ever see will take over Dubai Autodrome on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26.
Two 500-metre long waterslides will be set up and function in two-hour time-slots, with half an hour breaks in between to ensure the slides hold up to the popular demand.
The international family-friendly slip-and-slide event has had plenty of success in countries like Germany, Switzerland, Holland, France, Mexico, Austria, Spain, England and Belgium, and now the phenomenon is heading to the UAE.
Though summer has already officially ended, the heat would say otherwise and City Slide is the perfect way to cool off outside.
“Summers in Dubai will no more be spent indoors,” said Uttam Kumar, managing director of Tamquest Entertainment. “City Slide will surely get everyone on the streets this summer.”
Zona, event director of Tamquest Entertainment, added: “Dubai has seen a very hot summer this year and we want to give people a cooler experience to end their summers as an unforgettable one.
“We want people to get out of their homes and spend an entire day with their families and friends.”
Aside from the waterslides, the event will also have attractions like the Aqua Rides, water balloon and water gun fights, as well as a concert with a DJ.
Tickets cost Dh170 for entry to the venue and the two-hour timeslot to use the waterslides. Those who want to attend but not slide can do so for Dh50.
Children below the age of five can enter for free, but are not allowed to slide due to safety reasons.
You can purchase tickets either online at www.platinumlist.net or on-site on the day of the event, though they’re subject to availability.
For updates, follow the event’s Facebook page ‘City Slide Dubai’ or its Twitter handle ‘@CitySlideUAE’. Discover the slider in you this Eid and beat the heat outdoors at City Slide.
