Why not showcase your golf skills and test yourself against some of the top men’s golfers in the UAE in an exciting tournament in Sharjah next weekend?

The National Paints Men’s Open Golf Championship returns to Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club on Friday and Saturday, December 11 and 12, with all to play for.

As part of the qualifying round for the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Men’s Gross Order of Merit, the 36-hole tournament has gone from strength to strength and with a field of only 69 players, interested players are being encouraged to sign up ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

“This is one of the first tournaments that was organised since the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club was opened,” said Mark Ruddy, golf events manager at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club.

“It really is one of our flagship events on our calendar and you can say it’s our number one tournament every year.

“The competition is really exciting because we have top amateurs playing, many of who travel from around the UAE to play which is very encouraging.”

The handicap index limit is 20,  while a valid handicap certificate must be shown at registration.

Entry fees varies between Dh250 and Dh695 with the competition open to visitors, EGF members, juniors and professionals.

Fair way to play: The course is playable but always makes for a testing challenge.

Additionally, for Dh895 – the Preparation Pass, players can get unlimited golf course and academy access until Thursday.   And while the main trophy will be up for grabs, there are other prizes including Best Gross and Best Net.

Now in its eighth edition, the competition has been hugely popular and next weekend’s looks set to be no different.

“You will be playing at immaculate conditions and our ground staff have been putting in a lot of hard work over the last few days to ensure it’s in great contrition,” added Ruddy.

“The previous editions have been equally impressive. The amount of great golf we see is exceptional and even newcomers will be thrilled by what they see.

“The tournament is well organised and a lot of players return because it’s such a great event to be part of. It holds a lot of history and it’s prestigious title to win so next weekend should provide a fascinating battle.”
