  • David Gowans (c) receives his Dubai Duty Free Seniors trophy.

David Gowans was the overall winner of the 18th edition of the Dubai Duty Free Seniors Cup, which was recently played over the Faldo Course.

Gowans, a five-handicapper, enjoyed a mixed round of golf in his round of 40 points. He may have thought his chances were over after a treble bogey on the tricky dog-leg seventh hole, but nett birdies at the fourth, 10th, 12th, 13th and 18th were enough to secure victory.

The Ladies division was closely contested with Viv Caley securing victory by a one-stroke margin. Caley scored 33 points with runner up Charmaine Bruwer narrowly missing out on 32 points.

Aside from the stableford format, there was a prize for the best gross score of the day which was won by Ken Newell who scored a four-over par 76.

The duo carded 10 net birdies and only a single bogey in their superb round. The new Albatross partnership of Namir Al Naimi and KJ Lee narrowly missed out but played brilliant golf for eight net birdies and one net eagle.

Arjun Gupta added to his already impressive trophy collection with a superb win in the Engineers Cup, a competition traditionally played from the black tees of the Majlis course.
