  • Spieth enjoyed his time in the UAE capital.

Spieth finished with two rounds of 68 over the weekend, which saw him finish tied fifth at 11-under par.

The American said he enjoyed his stay in Abu Dhabi and could well return in the future.

“It could become a regular part of my schedule,” said Spieth.

“It’s at a good time in the year. The strength of field in this tournament is not matched this time of the season anywhere else. The weather is great at the beginning of the season to get into a bit of rhythm. I certainly see it continuing to be a part of my schedule.”

Spieth was pleased with his final result, despite struggling with his game.

“I was talking with Michael up the 18th fairway saying, ‘Wow, birdie here and we’re definitely top-10, and I felt like we were off this week’. We really were off this week. I didn’t make anything. I didn’t quite give myself a lot of chances.

“I didn’t get in a rhythm, and when I did have chances, they just wouldn’t go. Just a little off on the read or the speed, one of the two. Sometimes that happens during a week, and we kind of grinded out eight-under on the weekend in what really could have been something special, but it also could have been worse.”

Spieth was coming off a sensational win in PGA Tour’s Tournament of the Champion in Kapalua, Hawaii, where he shot 30-under par for the tournament.

“The golf course was the exact opposite of Kapalua – faster, firmer greens, very tight off the tee and high rough. I think I have seen two extremes in my first two tournaments of the season, and I have also hopefully seen two extremes in my game,” said the 22-year-old.

“I won’t say I played poorly this week, it’s just that I did not score. Really, I felt just slightly better about my game in Hawaii, but the scoring was so much better there. That comes down to putting and playing the par-5s for me and I just didn’t do it on those holes.

“I am very tired right now. I really am. As a team, we are just beat up mentally and physically. We are not 100 per cent there. It just shows – the first day I was here, I was striping it, but then I was weak in all parts of my game. My decision-making was poor as well. But we had a lot of fun times.”
