  • Carly Booth will assist Bernard Gallacher for Dubai Golf.

Two of Europe’s rising ladies stars – Carly Booth and Olivia Cowan – have been named as vice-captains for the inaugural Titans Cup, the first-of-its-kind Ryder Cup style showdown between two of the UAE’s biggest golf course operators, Dubai Golf and Troon Golf.

The 23-year-old Booth will assist her legendary Scottish compatriot Bernard Gallacher, who leads Dubai Golf, while the 19-year-old Cowan will be Tony Jacklin’s vice-captain as they try to steer Troon Golf to victory.

The two-leg tournament, hosted by property investment company IP Global, will be played on March 2 and 3 at The Els Club Dubai.

As many as 50 players – comprising Emirates Golf Federation board members, golf professionals, current and past club captains, as well as VIP guests – will be named in each team. They will play Pairs Betterball Matchplay, with the winning pairs earning a point for their team. The team with the most points after both the legs will be declared the winner.

The final leg of the tournament is scheduled to be held at Emirates Golf Club from October 25-27.
Booth, a two-time champion on the Ladies European Tour, is a regular visitor to Dubai and was
    delighted with her appointment.

“I think it’s a great way to show off the two biggest UAE brands Troon Golf and Dubai Golf. It will be a fun, competitive couple of days and it will be a great experience for all involved,” Booth said.

Germany’s Cowan, who qualified for the LET after winning three events in the LET Access Series last year, is hoping her interaction with legends like Jacklin and Gallacher will help her become a better
    player.

Cowan said: “I am honoured to be invited. The concept sounds really exciting and to have both Tony Jacklin and Bernhard Gallacher – both European golf legends – participate is fantastic. I am only 19 and it is my first year on Tour as a rookie and to meet them both and participate should a great learning experience for me.”

Christopher May, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Golf, said members of Dubai Golf are excited about the contest awaiting them.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity provided by IP Global to participate in this unique team event. It promises to be a very exciting opportunity and one which our members and partners are really looking forward to,” he said.
