  • The place to be: The Yas Links Golf Club is one of the best venues in the UAE to play golf.

If you are a keen golfer and feel confident of taking on fellow amateurs, then the Ping Yas Links Men’s Open is the tournament for you.

The two-day event on Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at Yas Links in Abu Dhabi, Yas Island, is open to all male amateur golfers, whether you are a UAE resident or a visitor.

In order to enter the competition, all golfers must have a valid handicap index of 12.4 and below issued by the Emirates Golf Club (EGF) or if you are visiting the country, you must produce a valid overseas certificate.

The competition is a perfect opportunity to showcase your talent against similarly skilled golfers in one of the best golf courses in the Gulf region. In the past Yas Links has been graciously voted locally and internationally as the best golf course in the region.

“Yas Links has won a lot of accolades in the past year and has been the benchmark for golf courses in the UAE,” says Carly Tjaler, sales executive at Yas Links.

You may be thinking you won’t have much of a chance of winning the top prize but you never know unless you enter. The tournament is a 36-hole strokeplay event with participants completing 18 holes each day.

Tee-off times will be between 07:00 to 12:00, with the second day tee-off times to be decided on the first day gross score.

Entry fees for Yas Links members is Dh495 while EGF members will pay Dh995. Guests will pay Dh1,200, with juniors (under 18) being charged Dh599. Included in the entry fee is light breakfast and buffet lunch for both days.

Participants will also be able to enjoy full use of practice facilities prior to play. Prizes will be awarded to the topthree placed golfers as well as to winners in other categories.

Given the buzz around the tournament, one expects entry to be full and enthusiasts are urged to hop on board soon.

So if you fancy the challenge then don’t waste much time and fill in your entry form as early as possible, which are available on the club’s Facebook site www.facebook.com/YasLinksGolfClub.

You can email the form to reception@ yaslinks.com. Alternatively, you can fill in the form at the venue. Entries close on March 3, with participants being notified of their tee-off times by email two days later.

Should there be too many entries, a ballot will be conducted to determine the field.

“We usually have tournaments every week and this is one of prestigious events of the year. Due to the popularity of the event, we would think the places will be filled quickly,” said Tjaler.

“Given the magnitude of the event, golfers will want to battle it out for the title and play against some of the top players in the UAE. It’s not a typical tournament.

“It’s a flagship event and a great opportunity to play against some brilliant golfers at Yas Links,” added Tjaler.

The 2013 edition was a huge success and this year’s event, the fifth, is expected to be bigger and a lot more exciting. If you fancy your chances then get yourself registered and gear up for some fun-filled golf.
