  • A new term of the popular Dubai Golf Junior Programme has begun and registration is still open for those who want to learn the basics and develop into better golfers.

Classes are held at both the Emirates Golf Club (EGC) and Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club (DCGYC) for young golfers aged between four and 17.

The programme is being supported by Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts and Wild Wadi Waterpark and is for youngsters of all levels of golfing experience, whether they have played the sport or not. The juniors will focus on the physical, etiquette, rules and on-course performance areas.

For children aged between four and six-years-old, there is a ‘Little Champions’ programme – an ideal way to introduce them to the game.

It is designed to develop the child’s understanding of golf, while also working on key fundamental movement skills.

Stephen Deane, head academy professional at EGC, said: “The junior programme includes a combination of skills and activities with a focus on fun to ensure thatthe junior golfers really do get the maximum benefit from the time that they spend with us.”

The new term is now in its second week, and classes are held every day during the eight-week programme. The eight-week packages are available from Dh875, which includes all the required equipment.

Classes last for 50 minutes and more information can be obtained by emailing [email protected] or [email protected].

The juniors will be playing in superb conditions as the classes are held in two fantastic venues – the EGC, host of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, and Dubai Ladies Masters and DCYGC, which is located in the heart of the Emirate.

Previous editions have already been deemed a huge success, with 400 juniors taking part overall and organisers are expecting a similar number of youngsters to take part this year.

Stephen Hubner, head golf professional at DCGYC, said: “We are fortunate to have some very strong young players within the region and it is fantastic to play a rolecontributing to their development.”

With the support of Wild Wadi Waterparks and Jumeirah Hotels and Resorts, the programme acts as an initiative to promote the sport to juniors and hopefully take up the game full-time.

“We are delighted to be involved with the programme and it is great to witness the enthusiasm that the participants have for the game of golf and be part of an initiative that is instrumental in developing the region’s future golfers,” said Chris Perry, general manager of Wild Wadi.

Christian Pertl, vice president sales and marketing MEASA for Jumeirah, said: “Partnering with the Dubai Golf Junior Programme has allowed Jumeirah to contribute to the success and development of these young golfers. There is so much talent in the region and it is great to see such initiatives giving them the chance to shine.”

It will definitely be great fun and if you’re unable to take part in this term, then another eight-week programme will begin in April.
