  • Prized possession: Yves Heye (2nd r) with members of Cadillac Golf League.

Yves Heye, an eight-handicapper, won the fifth round of the Cadillac Golf Cup League (CGCL), getting the better of the ever-consistent Westley Burke by one shot.

At the Faldo course of Emirates Golf Club, the permanent host venue of the weekly league that is played on Mondays and is supported by Cadillac, Heye finished his round on six-under par total, one better than Burke.

Tony Azoulay and Mark Dupree were tied third at four-under par. Heye, a German expat working as a Fire Fighting instructor with the Civil Defence in Fujairah, drives every Monday from the northern emirate, but will cherish his drive back to Dubai next Monday in a Cadillac CTS, which he got for a week as his prize.

In fact, Heye and Burke were both tied at the top with their stableford score of 37, but with the format for the tournament being Erado Strokeplay, under which four bad holes can be erased (changed into nett pars) from the total score (the decision to erase must be made before opening play on the next hole), Heye’s final score came to six-under par.

His two worst holes – a seven on the first and another seven on the 15th – got eliminated. Burke, who won the second round of the league and was runner-up last week, made a late birdie, two on the 17th hole, but that could not help him overcome Heye’s final tally.

The next event of the league is on Monday, October 6. Anybody is welcome to join, but they need to have an official EGF handicap of at least 20 to play.
