  • Big honour: Jumeirah Golf Estates CEO Yousuf Kazim (r) welcomes Henrik Stenson to the JGE community fold.

Jumeirah Golf Estates has further strengthened its relationship with world No2 Henrik Stenson by making him an honorary member in recognition of his contribution to the club and the world of golf.

The 38-year-old Swede is also the global brand ambassador of the property.

Stenson, a nine-time winner on the European Tour and the No1 player on the Tour in 2013 when he won both the Race to Dubai as well as the FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour, was presented with the membership by Jumeirah Golf Estates CEO Yousuf Kazim.

Stenson said: “Having spent almost 10 years in the UAE during the early days of my career, it is an honour to be back here – firstly as the DP World Tour Championship winner and now as an honorary member.”

Speaking to Sport360°, Stenson said: “I always like the feeling when I can roll off the bed and land straight on to the tee.

“This would not only be a great place for me to have brief layover if I am travelling from the US for events in Asia, which I do a lot, but also because Jumeirah Golf Estates has some fantastic facilities, including the European Tour Performance Institute, and I love the new clubhouse as well.”

Henrik Stenson is seen laughing during the third round of this year's Dubai Desert Classic.

Kazim said: “Henrik is a close friend of Jumeirah Golf Estates and his constant support of the community and his commitment to the world of golf are second to none.

“As a world-leading golfer, Henrik’s unwavering support cements our position as a premium residential golf community which ensures a superior lifestyle for both residents and golfers alike.”

Club operations general manager Neal Graham added: “Henrik’s contribution to golf has been immense, back-to-back DP World Tour Championships in 2013 & 2014, Race to Dubai & FedEx Cup victories in 2013 and team member of the victorious 2014 Ryder Cup teams amongst many other victories. We are delighted to have Henrik as brand ambassador for Jumeirah Golf Estates and it is a privilege to be able to recognise his achievements in this way.”

Located between Green Community and Dubai Sports City, Jumeirah Golf Estates is made up of 14 residential communities, centred around two Greg Norman-designed golf courses – Fire & Earth. The property recently became one of European Tour’s partners
