  • Great chance: The winner of the tournament will get to play a round with Ernie Els in Las Vegas.

Ernie Els has launched the 2015 Els for Autism Dubai Golf Challenge, which will see players in the UAE tee-off for a worthy cause.

The tournament will take place on World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday, April 2, at the Els Club Dubai, the only venue in the 26-event competition outside of the United States or Canada.

In total, approximately 120 golfers will compete across the three nations with winners of each tournament – as long as they reach their fundraising goals – to be

invited to Las Vegas in November to attend a half-day Autism seminar and play a final round with Els himself.

“Since the inception of the Els for Autism foundation, I have tried to inspire golfers all around the world to join in and lend their support for the treatment and prevention of Autism,” Els said.

“Now golfers in the UAE will be given the opportunity to change the lives of thousands of individuals with two lucky winners getting the chance to play in the grand final with me in Las Vegas in November.”

“The proceeds from the Dubai event will be split – 50 per cent will go to the Els for Autism foundation and the rest to Safe Center, a day centre for children and young people at the high end of the Autistic Spectrum, with Asperger’s Syndrome and its associated difficulties.

Don’t miss it: Non-playing guests can enjoy special packages at the Els Club Dubai.

The event at the Els Club is expected to raise more than $50,000 (Dh183,000), with the total target of $2.5 million (Dh9.1m) by the time the challenge reaches Las Vegas.”

There might not be any spots left to play in Dubai, but you can still watch all the action, enjoy the buffet dinner and bid in the auction to support autism awareness.

Those who take on the 18-hole course will play a two ball team better ball stableford format. If any player sinks a hole-in-one on the 17th hole, they’ll walk away with a new car, offered by BMW.

Two packages are available to be purchased for non-playing guests – Dh200 per ticket with soft drinks or Dh325 with select house beverages.

The competition will be a 13:00 shotgun start.
