Round of 44 points at Creek lands Bayer Khan DDF Golf World title

    Bayer Khan produced two superb rounds of golf to win the 23rd edition of the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup.

    Khan finished the prestigious two-day event with 80 Stableford points.

    He compiled 36 points and played to his handicap on Day 1 at Al Badia Golf Club, but was in fantastic form at his home course on the second day when he picked up 44 points at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

    A delighted Khan said after receiving his trophy: “Having come close in the past, it was a great feeling to play so well this time and seal the win this time.”

    The Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup is one of the most highly anticipated events in the region’s golfing calendar and is held annually for duty free officials from around the world and invited guests of Dubai Duty Free.

    The format for the competition was an individual stableford, with the opening round played at Al Badia Golf Club followed by the final round at Dubai Creek.

    In the Men’s Division it was Paul Cooke who fired two consecutive rounds of 35 to be crowned overall local champion with 70 points.

    Mathew Hammond, who travelled from England, was the overall visitor winner with a two-day total of 76 points, which included a superb 43 points at Dubai Creek.

    Art Miller was overall runner up with 72 points, just ahead of Graeme Toole who won the overall third place with 70 points. In the Ladies Division, Naema Maya prevailed to be crowned the overall local winner with 64 points over the two days.

    In the overall visitor category, Nancy Miller defended her title in style, securing her second win in a row with 63 points.

    Denise Kennedy was the overall visitors runner-up with 57 points, narrowly beating Jacqui Barry by two shots. Dickie Pyne also successfully defended his title of overall super senior with a fine total of 65 points.

    Dan Kongsted was the overall senior winner with 75 points, whilst Richard Newman, who shot a superb 39 points on day one, made 31 on day 2 to finish runner up to Kongsted.

    Commenting on the tournament, Colm McLoughlin, executive vicechairman of Dubai Duty Free, said: “The 23rd running of the Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup represents another milestone for us and we thank Al Badia and Dubai Creek for their continuous support.

    “The players enjoyed the atmosphere of friendly competition, and the social interaction made it a good meeting place for those involved in the duty free industry.”

    Julien Pagliuchi (36) claimed the Day 1 Best Net Score at Al Badia thanks to a better back nine over John Kelly, while Steve Flanaghan (30) had the best gross.

    At Dubai Creek, Yves Blouin won the Best Net with a seven-under par 43, while Michael McGinley won the lowest gross prize with 32 points.
