  • Spectacular scenery: The 24th edition takes part on the UAE-Oman border.

Now in its 24th edition, it has gone from strength to strength with hundreds of competitors being put through their paces in gravel tracks, and this year’s looks set to be no different.

Taking place on February 5 and 6, the course will take through asphalt roads crossing the UAE-Oman border with the starting and finishing at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Dibba.

It is open to all abilities with different categories to choose from. Those who want to compete individually can choose from the 30km, 50km and 72 km distances.

Relay teams of five can tackle the 50km course on the same day or those who want to push themselves further together can sign up for the 72km on February 6.

Each team must consist of two females, with stages ranging from 1.5km to 4.2km in distance.

Runners will take turns to run each stage while their support vehicle transports their team-mates along the course.

The only exception is for the first and last stage where four members of the team are required to compete together.

There is more than 1,000m of ascent to tackle during the Salomon Wadi Bih Run.

There is more than 1,000m of ascent to tackle during the Salomon Wadi Bih Run.

With a few days to go, race director Neil Young said: “The Wadi Bih Run is the oldest and most exciting trail run in the region, dating back to 1993 when just 16 teams completed the spectacular course through the dramatic winding Wadi Bih canyon,” he said.

“With over 1,000m of ascent, it is a great physical challenge and a refreshing chance to escape from the city and into the mountains.

“We urge entrants to register soon to avoid disappointment for this fantastic weekend away, and for teams to register additional runners in advance in case original team members cannot make the race, as changes will not be permitted after 20 January 2016.”

As the event sees the field cross the UAE border to Oman and back, all runners must upload their passport copies online as well as their residence visa. Hotel stay is available or you can camp at the beach nearby.

Kamyar Minachi, managing director at NIK Trading, official distributors of Salomon across the GCC, added: “It is exciting to see how the fantastic Salomon Wadi Bih Run is growing year after year in size and popularity across such a diverse, passionate and committed participant and spectator demographic.”
