  • Hit the road: A 5km run is the final challenge for people in the Sprint event.

It’s time to once again gear up for the 2XU Triathlon Championships as the second race of the season hits the new calendar year.

The chase for points resumes on Friday, February 12 at Mamzar Beach in Dubai, with varying distances on offer for athletes of all skills and ages.

The Junior Super Sprint features a 200m swim, 8km cycle and 2.5km run for ages 12 and under, while the regular Super Sprint for ages 13 and above is extended to a 375m swim, 8km cycle and 2.5km run.

More seasoned athletes can test their abilities in the Sprint, consisting of a 750m swim, 24km cycle and 5km run.

The longest distances for the most experienced competitors are reserved for the Olympic category, boasting a gruelling 1.5m swim, followed by a 40km cycle and finally a 10km run.

If you want to compete as a team, you can form a relay group of two or three athletes, with each person doing one of the disciplines.

Unlike the first race of the season which took place on October 30 of last year, the second event will allow wet suits to be used, giving everyone an advantage in the water.

Competitors will begin with a bracing swim at Mamzar Beach in Dubai.

Prize giving will take place after the final category concludes, with those finishing in first, second and third in each age group receiving medals.

At the end of the final race of the series, held on March 18, the athletes with the most accumulated points per category will be named overall winners and given trophies and prizes.

To qualify for the final prizes, athletes need to compete in two of the three races.
