  • Ramadan has finished and for those who have slipped out of a gym routine, the hardest part is motivating yourself to return.

Don’t beat yourself up about not committing to the gym because now is the perfect time to make your comeback!

If you’re a fitness newbie who has just joined a gym consult a trainer for a weights programme and aim to do your workout three times a week.

For those who are familiar with equipment and experienced in lifting, have a target to aim towards whether it’s increasing reps or adding weight to each exercise.

And, if you’re looking to mix up your workout then why not include supersets? It’s a great way to build muscle while also bringing intensity to your workout.

One exercise that is easy and doesn’t require much technical practice is a bench press exercise super-setted into press-ups which will hit all core chest muscles.

Before doing this exercise test out different weight on the bench – one that is challenging but not uncomfortable – and aim to touch the bar off your chest and then extend the movement straight up towards the sky.

Aim to do 10 reps of bench then go straight into 10 reps of press-ups.

For the press-ups, make sure your body is straight and touch your chest off the ground. Don’t take the easy option and do lazy reps!

Take a 90 second break and go again.

If you’re unsure about how to do these exercises then ask a friend in the gym – people are always willing to help – or watch some simple tutorials on YouTube.
