  • Feel rejuvenated: Yoga participants will be guided through a series of asanas,

Monte Carlo Beach Club is an award-winning social, leisure and dining destination on beautiful, up and coming Saadiyat Island, regularly drawing crowds for some luxury pool time, a bit of shisha and good food, and a couple late nights on the dance floor.

But this year one would also be wise to check into its health club as the team there have been working hard to strengthen their health and wellness offering to the capital with the recent launch of two very attractive programmes that will cater to different types of fitness enthusiasts.

One of the two may be called ‘Hell Week’ – a high-end, high intensity bootcamp of sorts running from this February 2-8 – but we promise, it does come with good intentions and some beneficial results.

Exercises in the ‘Hellish’ daily 50-minute sessions are designed to be challenging, they’ll keep the heart rate up and working overtime, with fat loss and heightened endurance and stamina some of the key goals… that is, if you can last the whole week.

In any event, missing a class is not an option and there are two different time slots to choose from: 07:00 and 09:00.

The package is full-on and even includes an exciting but challenging nutrition plan, two in body assessments (one for before and one for after to track progress), enriching smoothies after each session and a final day celebratory breakfast with the whole group.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a super efficient way to get your fitness in and done and dusted for the day, and achieve the maximum results.

It comprises short and snappy energy-bursting segments with small breaks in between, and not only do you burn more calories during a HIIT workout, the exertion puts one’s body into hyperdrive and you end up burning even more, in some cases, even 24 hours after the session.

Also, studies show that HIIT workouts allow dieters to preserve their hard-earned muscles while ensuring most of the weight lost comes from fat stores too, so it’s win-win for guys and girls alike.

What’s more, many of the exercises the club’s qualified trainers will give you will be equipment-free – you’ll walk away having learned a few interesting training techniques that can be applied at home on your own, the idea being to make fitness a regular part of your lifestyle even after the week is up.

Do we need to keep talking? You should be ready to sign up – what’s the worst that could happen in just one week, right?

Hell Week, costs Dh350 for members and Dh650 for non-members. Spaces are limited and booking ahead is essential.

If you’d rather steer clear of Hell and visit Nirvana instead, there is now Full Moon Yoga on the manicured lawns of the Club too.

The 75-minute lessons will see guests unite their body, mind and spirit under the stars, and fall on the date of both the new and full moon each month.

Overseen by qualified yoga instructors, participants will be guided through a series of asanas, designed to improve strength, stamina and flexibility.

Monte-Carlo Beach Club’s recreation manager, Buntu Malgas commented: “We are proud of this new addition to our fitness programme, and think that Yoga is the perfect way to kick-start your wellness regime for 2014 as it helps reduce stress and balance both body and mind for a healthy lifestyle.

“The benefits of yoga however don’t stop there, as the ancient practice is proven to aid concentration and even boost your metabolic rate!”

Bill Loveday, General Manager of Monte-Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat added: “Yoga is undoubtedly a natural fit for Monte-Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat embodying what the club is all about: escapism, relaxation and peace.

“Our aim is for Monte-Carlo Beach Club, Saadiyat to become established as Abu Dhabi’s number one health and wellness destination. With the club already offering a world class gym, infinity pool and luxurious spa facilities, yoga is a natural addition to our current offering”.

Full Moon and New Moon classes will next run this Friday, January 31, February 15, March 1, March16, and March 30.

It kicks off from 7.30pm and all equipment is provided. A session costs Dh60 for members and Dh85 for non-members.
