  • Reform your lifestyle: One of the Mojo Reformer Pilates sessions.

This is about the time when those New Year’s resolutions are either working or beginning to wane.

If improved fitness and weight loss was one of your goals and you still haven’t found something you like, you may be in luck as Mojo Reformer Pilates, a new fitness studio, may be able to help you reach your goal.

Mojo Reformer Pilates looks to reform fitness in Dubai by combining dynamic strength training and traditional pilates to create a heartpumping, fun, and entertaining workout.

Mojo is located in the thriving business community of Media City and news of its arrival has been creating a buzz on social media.

This hot new fitness studio can be found in Concord Tower, but what is reformer pilates?

Well, it’s a twist on traditional pilates using a machine – the reformer – to provide resistance as you perform various dynamic moves.

The original reformer machines can look a bit intimidating, somewhat like a torturing device. However, the reformer machines at Mojo are anything but.

The studio is equipped with 12 colour-coordinated state of the art Allegro 2 reformer machines, the newest on the market.

The Allegro 2 machines are adjustable, glide smoothly, and can have multiple resistance combinations and are designed to force you to be aware of engaging your core, the primary emphasis in traditional pilates.

Studio owner Manoj Asnani chose this model for its ease of use.

“It adds for a better user experience,” he says.

Both beginners and advanced individuals can sit in the same class and receive a challenging workout. Mojo pilates classes are different from traditional pilates workouts; these 50-minute classes are designed to make you sweat.

Top notch London-based celebrity trainer Matt Field, the brainchild behind “Cardio Pilates”, assisted in the class design of the workouts. They involve a full range of motion, eccentric and concentric movements, paired with sets of tiny pulses.

These small contractions provide added intensity, which in turn help tone and sculpt the muscles more efficiently and is definitely a class to give a try if you’re looking for a new challenge.

Each move on the reformer is a stretch, the cables allow for strength based exercises. The class is intense enough to provide a great challenge for crossfit athletes, runners, rugby players, or anyone looking to cross train.

Asnani said: “The reformer will compliment a lot of activities. It’s a workout that you integrate into your fitness programme.”

The instructors use a variety of fitness props to keep your muscles guessing and heart pumping through the class. Some of these are pilates rings for added chest strength, balancing sticks, and therabands.

Don’t worry if it seems too intense; the personalised, upbeat music played in class will keep your mind off the burning sensation in your muscles as you pump out the last few reps. If the music doesn’t keep you motivated, you can always peek out the window and enjoy the beautiful landscape view of Burj Al Arab.

Mojo has a very simple and easy to remember schedule – classes are offered seven days a week, every hour on the hour.

On weekdays classes begin at 07:00 with the final class occurring at 20:00. Mojo offers five classes a day on the weekends, with both mixed and women-only classes. If one of these times does not suit your fancy, you can sign up for private lessons with Mojo offering individual or paired private sessions.

Another unique feature at Mojo is personalised workouts.

When you book your class online you can inform your instructor what body part or muscle group you would like to emphasize in class. The instructor will cater the class to your goals.

    Mojo has a simple philosophy.

Asnani wants customers “to live a healthier, fitter lifestyle.”

The studio also has a juice bar with made-to-order refreshing cold press juices and smoothies. Mojo incorporates fun into fitness with their nutrient dense juices, naming them after popular workout hit tunes. “Just Beet It”, “Green Cadillac”, and the “Energizer”, are a few of the offerings at the bar.

Additionally, Mojo offers a loyalty programme to reward customers.

Asnani’s goal is to “make it more affordable for customers who have made Mojo Reformer Pilates a part of their lifestyle.”
