The new Nike LunarEpic Flyknit Shield offers the same benefits with added all-weather construction, ensuring that athletes can run with confidence and ease through the inclement conditions of the changing seasons.
The shoe’s one-piece Flyknit upper is now constructed with DWR (durable, water-repellent)- coated TPU yarn and a water-repellent internal bootie to keep the foot warm and dry. The laser-siped outsole pattern—inspired by car tires—is now grooved to increase surface area, repel water and further maximize traction. The shoe’s mid-height collar continues to provide a locked-down, dynamic fit, emphasizing natural movement from the ankle to the foot.
Nike designers researched and tested multiple geometric outsole patterns on runners during deep winter on the snow and mud-filled trails of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. In early spring, these outsoles were additionally tested in snowmelt conditions, where runners necessitate increased traction and water resistance. Eventually they found a solution that grips various surfaces while channelling water from underneath the shoe with every stride.
The resulting pattern is precision-lasered into the IU foam sole, preserving heel-to- toe transitions and propelling energy return.
The Nike LunarEpic Flyknit Shield is available from November 3rd at nike.com and retail locations starting at 889 AED.
