  • The claims are certainly substantial; Nutri Bullet asserts that it “started a health revolution that has transformed millions of lives”. It is a fact as difficult to disprove as it is to certify so hats off to the marketeers but, really, how much of an impact can a blender have on a person’s health?

Firstly, a disclaimer here must read that Nutri Bullet isn’t technically a blender. While a juicer removes the fibre and a blender often leaves big chunks, a Nutri Bullet extracts – breaking down fruit, vegetables and seeds into their most “nutritious and absorptive state”.

While it’s difficult to verify the nutritional breakdown against competitors, in terms of texture it is true that Nutri Bullet does indeed seem to create a smoother smoothie than most normal blenders. This, according to company literature, is down to the speed and design of the extractor blade, which is powerful enough to break through tough seeds, skin and stems.

The basic Nutri Bullet has 600 watts of power, a level that escalates through its different models from the 900-watt Nutri Bullet pro to the 1200-watt Nutri Bullet and finally the Nutri Bullet RX, which boasts a whopping wattage of 1700.

For those who have never owned or used a high-power blender or smoothie-maker, those numbers won’t really matter. In their bid to change our everyday habits, the important number here is one. What a Nutri Bullet does is enables and even encourages those who have previously had zero homemade smoothies per day to have at least one.

Going from eating a couple of pieces of fruit and vegetables to drinking several blended together – that extra intake of vitamins and minerals is only going to be beneficial for one’s health.

Beyond the health kick, the key perk is its ease of use. Blenders and juicers can be large, cumbersome and slow going, not to mention a real pain to assemble and clean. It’s bad enough drinking blended kale but being forced to scrub green specks off plastic ridges for what feels like an eternity really does prolong the agony.

The Nutri Bullet, though, is compact, lightweight and uncomplicated.

It ensures that making a smoothie is a simple experience that can be easily replicated day after day rather than a long process approached with dread each morning. For those dragging themselves out of bed to pump iron, pound the roads, or even just make that much-feared commute to work, a streamlined experience is most welcome.

The blending receptacle itself doubles up as the cup from which the smoothie is drunk – it’s just a matter of adding the ingredients, screwing on the cap and pushing down to blend (sorry, extract!). It takes 30 seconds and means there is no excuse for avoiding fruit and vegetables.

It’s convenient for the health-conscious but perhaps more importantly a very simple first step for those looking to make a positive change. The Nutri Bullet doesn’t come cheap but being fit and healthy never does these days, does it? It’s time to join the revolution!
