  • Fat-burning training sessions in freezing cold conditions are not what you would normally associate with the searing-hot UAE climate.

But Ski Dubai have put together a new fun and effective program for people throughout the country to experience, away from the soaring temperatures outside.

The ski resort has announced free snow-aerobics classes to get people in shape with a fun, unique and memorable 30-day fitness plan.

The ‘Snow-robics’ initiative will put participants through a high-impact, 45-minute session that will see them burn calories, surrounded by snow-covered slopes in sub-zero conditions as they partake in a customised scheme.

In tandem with Dubai’s Smart Fit Boot Camp, instructor Nathan Carr will guide those involved through a high-intensity circuit featuring equipment like medicine balls and kettlebells. “This is a special opportunity for people to workout in the Middle East,” he said.

“‘Snow-robics’ gives you more bang for your buck as our sessions are designed to work multiple muscle groups in freezing conditions, where your body burns more calories simply trying to keep up your body heat.

“This means people can spend less time working out but still get outstanding results, when used alongside our nutrition plans.”

Geared at weight loss and complimented by a unique and memorable work-out experience, ‘Snow-robics’ will be offered from April 5–May 3, every Saturday, Monday and Wednesday from 06:30–07:15 and 07:30-08:15.

Registration is on a first come, first served basis and is now open at www.skidxb.com.

Ski Dubai state participants will increase their metabolism, gain new energy reserves, breakdown stored fat, improve athletic performance and burn more calories during their exercises.

These claims are backed up by research from the Netherlands, which say people expend up to five times more energy when shivering – a sensation you are not going to experience away from Ski Dubai with thermometers now well into the 30°c-range in the UAE.

A study from Quebec University also showed that cold weather can use up ‘brown fat’, which is a tissue that acts like an internal furnace

. To ensure maximum benefit, participants will be weighed in at the beginning and end of the four weeks to determine their weight loss and also be given recommended healthy meal plans and nutritional guidelines.

Classes will be limited to 30 participants, with a focus on circuit training using one’s own body weight and other functional exercises, led by qualified instructors.

Participants can expect a work-out like no other, where they expend significantly more calories, surrounded by fresh snow, first thing in the morning.

Marketing & sales director at Majid Al Futtaim – Leisure & Entertainment, Omar El Banna said: “Ski Dubai is an innovative brand and we are pleased to be able to offer ‘Snow-robics’ – a unique and novel exercise program.

“In addition to it being a fun concept, we wanted to raise awareness about fitness and healthy living and thus are offering the inaugural month long program for free.

“As a part of Majid Al Futtaim – Leisure & Entertainment, we seek to further the vision of the group and offer new, cutting edge programs and entertainment options, while creating great moments for everyone.”

In addition to being free of charge, Ski Dubai will also provide workout mats and jackets, if participants request them. Guests are encouraged to layer up and come prepared to partake in an intense, fat-burning session that will get their adrenaline pumping and leave them invigorated for the rest of the day
