The festive season is a time for seeing family, catching up with friends and winding down a busy year with celebrations, but it can also be a period where you are less active than you would normally be.

That’s why Sport360’s Stuart Appleby has put together three basic and easy-to-remember tips to make sure you feel fresher during and after the conclusion of the festivities!

TIP 1 – DON’T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME SAT DOWN (IN FRONT OF THE TV)

After consuming A LOT of food and drink – an afternoon nap and day in front of the TV is a traditional and relaxing way to spend the Christmas period.

But make sure you break up the time you spend lounging around by going out for a walk, ideally after eating to help ease digestion. You could also go for an early morning run to start the day – you’ll feel full of energy as a result.

It’s a nice way to get the blood pumping and body moving – and perhaps afterwards, you can reward yourself with a treat!

Stretching and a few loosening-up exercises can also make you feel a lot better.

TIP 2 – EAT FRUIT AND KEEP HYDRATED

While fresh fruit, perhaps, isn’t high on the festive menu – make sure you try and consume at least a couple of your ‘Five a Day’ pieces of fruit and vegetables. Mix this into your festive food plans and instead of snacking on chocolates, sweets and other goodies, switch it up and grab a banana or apple.

We tend to drink less water over this time but make sure you stay hydrated wherever possible – it will definitely help you feel fresher the next day!

TIP 3 – ENGAGE YOUR BRAIN

Make sure you relax and unwind over the holiday period – but also try and keep your mind active. Exercise is a good way to maintain clarity of thought.

Try and keep your mind engaged – do some reading, play a game and spark up some good conversation. Avoid spending too much time immersed in your phone!

Have a happy and healthy festive season!
