What does the best footballer in the world eat to keep on top of his game?
Italian nutritionist Giuliano Poser has transformed Lionel Messi’s diet since working with him in 2014.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Poser said water, good quality olive oil, whole grains, fruit and vegetables build the foundation of the Barcelona star’s diet.
“Also very good are nuts and seeds,” Poser said. “The farther he stays away from sugars, the better. It is the worst thing for the muscles.”
“Refined flours are also a big problem as these days, it’s difficult to find uncontaminated wheat,” he added.
With many of the world’s biggest stars consuming lots of meat for a high source of protein, Poser advises his clients against it.
“The amount of meat normally eaten by Argentinians and Uruguayans is too much, as it is difficult to digest.”
“My methods are not in doubt, everyone can see Leo week in, week out.”
