  • Bike bonanza: Flywheel Middle East's new location will deliver a complete lifestyle experience with retail and healthy refreshments, as well as offering child-friendly facilities at the neighbouring play space.

Here’s our round-up of what’s trending in the world of fitness, health and wellness – what you need to buy or try right now to stay fit, healthy and ahead of the game.

    High-flying fitness

Flywheel Sports – all the cool kids’ favourite fitness and lifestyle cycling experience – is coming to Gold and Diamond Park! Its second studio in the UAE launches this month to provide their phenomenal Flywheel and body-sculpting FlyBarre workouts to residents of South Dubai, so expect some hot promotions and free tasters this month, and some new classes and challenges coming with it in time for a fitter 2015.

Flywheel Middle East’s Amira Salaam Amro said: “Our new location will deliver a complete lifestyle experience with retail and healthy refreshments, as well as offering child-friendly facilities at the neighbouring play space.”

“In addition to its classic Fly 45 classes, we’ll offer special classes for Ladies Only, as well as weekly Teen Rides, Charity Events and Challenge Rides to help train the growing UAE-sporting community,” added Reem Farah Delivanis, Flywheel Middle East partner.

“FlyBarre is evolving too. In the New Year we’re adding FlyBarre Sport, a more intense version of our cardio Barre workout, to our roster of classes.” The team are behind the Dubai community with their New Year’s resolutions with a 4-week fitness challenge kicking off on January 15 too. Showcasing the industry’s latest trends

Get to know the who’s who of the region’s growing fitness community, and take in some raw gymnastic talent, at the 2014 edition of the MEFIT Health & Fitness Summit, this December 11-13 at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

All three days are packed featuring international speakers on everything from the business know-how of fitness to summits on Personal Training and Group Fitness Classes, plus plenty of free class demonstrations and workshops on everything ‘wellness-related’.

One star attraction will certainly be Battle of the Bars on the Friday though, a free-to-attend event showcasing the best of the best in calisthenics, the latest fitness discipline to grip the world. Calisthenics is of Greek origin, meaning “beautiful strength”, so expect some stunning freestyle performances as competitors battle to be crowned champion. High intensity workout

The Aquabiking specialists in Dubai just keep expanding their repertoire. Last month they introduced Japanese slimming technology in the form of the Iyashi Dome, and now they’ve got your cardio well and truly covered adding High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) into the mix.

Try Japanese exercise research gone rogue, Tabata – a short and sweet routine involving 20 seconds work done at high intensity followed by ten seconds rest, repeated eight times.

Gibala is similar, but with 10 repetitions of 60-second burst followed by 75 seconds’ recovery time.

In and out the door in no time, and around 700 calories burnt? Yes please! Info: www.latelieraquafitness.com

Detox your body for a fresh start

The festive season is usually associated with more food and drink than you can typically handle, and it does take its toll on the body, but ESPA at the iconic Yas Viceroy are quick on the uptake and have designed just the perfect spa packages for you to face the season, and 2015, feeling fresh.

This December, take advantage of a two-hour Detox Massage (from Dh580) and the New Resolution Ultimate Package (from Dh1,650) to keep you fresh and glowing throughout the festivities. Info: 02 656 0862, [email protected]
