  • Bounceback work with all types of athletes.

Last year, Yas Marina made the welcome decision to focus phase two of their development on fitness, health and holistic living, and with that in mind opened the Reebok CrossFit-backed Vogue Fitness, the NuYou Spa, watersports suppliers Watercooled and BounceBack Physiotherapy.

They now all comfortably share space with the Marina’s awesome array of dining and entertainment venues, providing quality services that cater to Abu Dhabians’ wants as well as needs.

BounceBack Physiotherapy in particular, Yas Island’s own fully comprehensive physiotherapy and rehabilitation service, was a much needed addition to the market and has done well in a short space of time to provide a holistic approach to not just treating the symptom, but the root cause of various musculoskeletal, physiological and neurological aches and concerns through their expert hands-on approach and clinical judgement.

Their qualified staff have extensive experience of working both in the UAE and internationally with individuals, teams and elite athletes, and are so passionate about sharing their skills and the importance of a high standard of anatomical care and maintenance with the public, that you can often find them set up at TrainYAS nights providing complimentary checks and assistance to anyone suffering aches, strains, pains or pulls, as well as at a few other sporting events around Abu Dhabi.

The clinic was opened by partners, British-born physiotherapist Simon Case and Australian-born physiotherapist Tim Fletcher, both sporty types who have a combined 10 years of UAE experience, in add-ition to international experience in their field. The small but skilled team also includes physiotherapist and keen triathlete Amy Lesley Gilbert, and massage therapist Celina McNally.

Case, who has a real interest in orthopaedics, musculoskeletal outpatients and sports injuries, explains their decision to risk a move from Dubai and settle in Yas Marina. “When Tim and I were working in Dubai we always had the thought that we wanted to start up our own place, and when we were looking around as to where to open a practice, we saw there was a niché in the market down in Abu Dhabi where no one was supplying the provision for physiotherapy that we were providing up in Dubai.

“So we basically tried to bring that down to Abu Dhabi, and the response we’ve got so far from the expats, athletes and residents that we treat has been very positive,” adds the Briton, who has also represented the UAE’s rugby squads in the capacity as a team physiotherapist, as well as likes to dabble in various sports.

BounceBack therapists are trained to use a variety of trusted evidence-based treatment principles such as the respected McKenzie method, clinical Pilates, taping and acupuncture, that treat neck pain, sport injuries, and pre and post natal pains, to name a few, and the founding pair believe that what they offer their clients in terms of quality practice is unrivalled in the emirate.

Their client base ranges from your typical suffering sedentary off-ice workers and car accident cases to weekend warriors and serious athletes.

“We look after the Abu Dhabi Saracens rugby team, but also Abu Dhabi seems to have a very active population so we also get a lot of people who attend TrainYAS, and in general amateur and pro athletes and triathletes from around the region,” adds Case.

Fletcher, having played professional rugby in Ireland as well as held the first Captaincy of the UAE’s rugby sevens squad, has had the pleasure, with partner Case, of working with a number of golfers in particular.

BounceBack offer help for all types of injuries.

As both are “Titleist Performance Institute” trained physios who are especially able to treat golf-related injuries and help improve swing mechanics, Case has seen to rising English PGA golfer Toby Tree, while Fletcher has gained a regular follower in Swedish European Tour professional Rikard Karlberg, who initially came to him regarding some issues surrounding his neck which have been affecting his golf swing.

“He seems happy, I’ve been seeing him for a good few months now,” says Fletcher. “We’ve managed to take that pain away and he’s starting to discover a bit more consistency. Every time he’s back in Abu Dhabi from a tournament he comes and just gets a little bit of maintenance treatment done,” says Fletcher.

Among the general public, there seems to be one popular concern bringing people to BounceBack’s doors though, says the Australian.

“Without a doubt, lower back pain is the most common case we see for two reasons: people sit too long in their offices, then often go home where they’re required to do more work on the laptop, sitting again; and because a lot of people are still quite sedentary in their lifestyles, especially your average office workers who are not getting in enough exercise and are opting for much more ‘down time’ rather than ‘moving time’ over the weekend or on evenings.”

In addition, what’s good about the centre is that they promote self-care and sell a variety of physiotherapy aids onsite too.

“We have foam rollers for tight spots, good for a nice back rolling out after exercises, we have trigger point balls which are great for getting into those real nitty gritty places, sports equipment such as exercise resistance bands, which are sort of a staple in physiotherapy practices, alongside your standard tapes and strappings which we use in the clinic and which people want to try and replicate at home and after treatment,” adds Case.

“All in all I think what’s special about our facility is the people we employ – we’re all passionate about the jobs that we do and we want to do it properly. We just want to try and push our reputation as honest, thorough and professional.”

Open 8:00-18:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and 8 – 19:00 on Sunday and Wednesday, treatments are Dh400 for 40 minutes and the clinic offers medical reimbursement compatible with most health insurance companies. To book an appointment, phone 02 565 1212 or visit www.bounceback.ae
