  • Calm and relaxed demanour: MS Dhoni.

Orson Welles once said, “Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what’s for lunch.”

The quote stands as a testimony to the great man’s sense of humour. But as it turns out, for Chennai Super Kings and India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the quote holds a different meaning altogether.

Usually the coolest head in a cricket field, no matter what the situation is, M S Dhoni, lost his cool after being denied home-made biryani and stormed out of the hotel with his entire brigade to stay at a different place.

According to hotel authorities who preferred anonymity, Dhoni on Tuesday moved his entire Chennai Super Kings team out of a Hyderabad five-star after the hotel prevented the squad from consuming some home-cooked biryani sent by Dhoni's one-day team-mate Ambati Rayudu, who is a resident of Hyderabad.

Biryani is a speciality of the Hyderabadi cuisine and almost everyone who visits Hyderabad makes it a point to get hold of some of the Nizami delicacy.

Dhoni, whose team played Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural match of the Champions League T20 on Wednesday, was so enraged by Hotel Grand Kakatiya's refusal to let them enjoy the biryani, that he made the team management cancel the booking and move the team and support staff to the rival Taj Krishna, another reputed hotel in Hyderabad.

Following the Indian skipper’s decision, even the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials, who were booked in the same hotel, cancelled their reservation and moved to Taj Krishna.

But that wasn’t all. Soon after the officials moved out of the hotel, ICC chairman and BCCI president-in-exile N Srinivasan too jumped into the bandwagon and got a booking in Taj Krishna.

Grand Kakatiya has strict rules against consumption of outside food in the hotel premises however they did make a concession for Dhoni and his team- they allowed him to eat the biryani in their rooms. But Dhoni was reportedly adamant on using the board room.

That is the point when the hotel refused to budge from it's stand. They had arrived at an impasse.

While the Grand Kakatiya staff have confirmed that the Chennai Super Kings abruptly moved out on Tuesday afternoon, they refused to elaborate. "You should ask the Chennai team management what happened and why they vacated," said Suhasini, a member of the hotel’s public relations.

So much for the love of Biryani!
