  • Making headlines: Woods.

Former world No 1 Tiger Woods was dragged into yet another controversy yesterday after a US tabloid reported he had an affair with Amanda Boyd, the former wife of PGA Tour player Jason Dufner.

The National Enquirer said the relationship was the reason Woods’ ex-girlfriend, skiing champion Lindsey Vonn, broke up with him.

The two superstar athletes had been going out for three years. However, Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent, issued a denial at the Greenbrier Classic yesterday.

“I couldn’t deny this more vehemently,” he told Golfweek magazine. “There is less than zero strand of truth to it. It’s 100 per cent false… 100 per cent fabricated and has zero credence.

“It’s absolutely, unequivocally untrue. They are not even acquaintances. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”

The Enquirer report also claimed Woods flew Boyd – who divorced Dufner in April – to Seattle when he played practice rounds at Chambers Bay, venue of the US Open, last month.

Woods and ex-wife Elin Nordegren divorced in 2010 after several cases of transgression by the American star were made public.

Woods will tee off at this week’s Greenbrier Classic on the PGA Tour, hoping to arrest a scary slide which has seen him post three score in the 80s this year and slip to 220th in the world rankings.

The 14-time major champion has won 79 PGA Tour titles, but is winless since 2013. Woods did hold a press conference yesterday, but wasn’t asked any question on the story linking him to Boyd.
