  • Both sides have enjoyed success in the last five series.

It is one of the most fierce rivalries in cricket and the last five series have thrown up some classics. Here as shown in the video below, Sport360 looks at how those Ashed matches ended up being etched in history.

    – Asian Town Stadium: Qatar’s cricketing oasis for labourers
    – The Ashes: A statistical review into cricket’s greatest rivalry
    – England: Jos Buttler inspired by Botham’s Ashes team-talk

    2013-14
    Australia 5, England 0
Top batsman: David Warner, 523 runs
Top bowler: Mitchell Johnson, 37 wickets

Barring the opening day of the first Test at Gabba when Stuart Broad took five wickets, it was Australia all the way as Mitchell Johnson struck terror in the English camp with his pace and bounce. It was Australia’s second whitewash in seven years.

    2013
    England 3, Australia 0, Drawn 2
Top batsman: Ian Bell, 562 runs
Top bowler: Graeme Swann, 26 wickets

The series started on a rousing note at Trent Bridge as Ashton Agar, Ian Bell and James Anderson stood out as England edged a 14-run win. The hosts carried that momentum to Lord’s where Australia imploded before Bell and Broad sealed it at Chester-le- Street in another thriller.

    2010-11
    Australia 1, England 3, Drawn 1
Top batsman: Alastair Cook, 766 runs
Top bowler: James Anderson, 24 wickets

Cook and Anderson were the heroes as England clinched their first Ashes in Australia after 24 years. Kevin Pietersen also dazzled with a classic 227 in the Adelaide Test. The series was Ricky Ponting’s last as Test captain.

    2009
    England 2, Australia 1, Drawn 2
Top batsman: Andrew Strauss, 474 runs
Top bowler: Ben Hilfenhaus, 22 wickets

It was a new-look Aussie team. The series was keenly fought with the teams locked at 1-1 after four Tests. In the decider at The Oval, Graeme Swann picked up eight wickets while Jonathan Trott hit a ton to seal the series.

    2006-07
    Australia 5, England 0
Top batsman: Ricky Ponting, 576 runs
Top bowler: Stuart Clark, 26 wickets

Following the 2005 defeat, the Aussies were desperate for revenge and they were merciless from day one. It was an emotional series as Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Justin Langer and Damien Martyn called it a day.
