  • Sporting stars are generally seen as the perfect human specimen who push the body to its absolute limits.

But sometimes, those with some deformity or deficiency manage to overcome barriers and excel in their field. Here is a look at a few of them.

DANNY GARCIA:Unbeaten boxer Garcia feels one of the reasons he has never been knocked down in the ring is because he has six toes and is thus never offbalance.

GARRINCHA: The winner of the 1958 and 1962 World Cup with Brazil had a deformed spine, his right leg bent outwards and left leg six centimeters shorter and curved inwards.

JIM ABBOTT: Abbott was born without a right hand but he made it to California Angels’ rotation as a pitcher. Famously threw a no-hitter against the Indians in 1993.

TIGER PATAUDI: Lost one eye after an accident. But made his debut six months later and became the youngest Test captain of India and was one of its finest players.

BHAGWAT CHANDRASEKHAR: Was part of the Indian spin quartet of the 1960s and 70s. An attack of polio at six left his right arm withered, but that didn’t stop his ambition.
