  • Sporting excellence: Dubai Sports City.

Year after year, Dubai Sports City’s Open Day event asserts itself as the most exciting and engaging event for young sports enthusiasts in the city.

And this year’s edition on Saturday at Sports Village, promises to be bigger and better than its predecessors, with the number of attendees expected to reach about 2,000 people.

Held in the fully air-conditioned indoor dome of the Football Zone, home of the FIFA-approved artificial football pitch, the Open Day will be attended by coaches from the Spanish Soccer School, ICC Academy, and Rugby Zone, as well as ones from the Butch Harmon School of Golf.

Learn from the best: Coaches will be available on the day.

Coaches will be available to interact with the children and give them insights on their favourite sport, providing enough information to both kids and parents to encourage signing up for their courses.

And for kids who do register for their academy of choice will receive special discounts and prizes.

Particularly unique to this year is the special guest appearance of Australian women’s cricket star Holly Ferling.

The team’s opening bowler will be there from 11.30 to 13.30 to sign autographs for and take pictures with fans and visitors.

Moreover, female fans both young and adult, will get a chance to participate in a special open coaching session held by Ferling in order to get more of a first-hand feel of the game from a lady’s perspective.

In addition to an introduction to the courses, the Open Day provides kids and parents the chance to tour the world-class facilities on the Sports Village campus.

But the day is not just about sports. As it seeks to provide a fun and exciting atmosphere for everyone, it will also play host to a plethora of fun activities that keep the sporty sprites’ spirits pumped up. These include face painting, a bouncy castle, food and drinks, as well as exciting competitions.

Dubai Sports City general manager – Sports Business Maqbul Dudhia is looking forward to Saturday.

He said: “This year’s event promises to be like no other before it.

“Dubai Sports City’s Open Day is an exciting event not just for the kids but for us as organisers because we all know we make kids so much happier year after year. This year in particular is set to be the most exciting yet.

Get involved: Kids can take part in activities.

“The event started back in January of 2013, and with each year we’ve felt that it really brings us all together as one community. The buzz and atmosphere of having so many sprightly young boys and girls eager to expand their sports talents with our world-class coaches is always an inspiration for us to want to give more.”

He added: “This year we expect our highest numbers yet, over 2,000 people, and we’re welcoming them with even more exciting activities and events than ever before. Dubai Sports City welcomes you all to join us on Saturday September 5.”
