With just six weeks to go before the season-ending Dubai World Superseries Finals, young India sensation Kidambi Srikanth is hoping to repeat last year’ performance where he progressed to the semi-finals.

Srikanth was defeated in the semi-finals by eventual winner Chen Long, but his performances established him as a player to watch, and a favourite among the fans

Srikanth will visit the Schools Championships along with former world number one and one of the most successful European badminton players of all time, Denmark’s Peter Gade, and together they will share some hints and tips with the aspiring young champions on Tuesday 27 October.

    – BWF: Secretary general lauds UAE badminton

    – Shuttle Time: Team Victor go on to take team title

After a demonstration and autograph session at the Championships, Srikanth and Gade will present trophies to the winners, before heading to Creekside at Dubai Creek for a public exhibition match at 5pm and autograph signing at 6pm.

Srikanth has now established himself among the top players in the world, this year rising to number three in the rankings.

He is currently ranked sixth in the world, and is in eighth place in the Destination Dubai rankings. Only the top eight ranked players in the Metlife Superseries qualify for Dubai, so the pressure is on Srikanth to maintain or improve his position with only two more tournaments left in the Metlife Superseries for 2015.

The presence of Kidambi Srikanth and Peter Gade at the finals is sure to motivate the young players, who have taken to the tournament in droves.

After 140 boys competed on Saturday 17 October, 150 enthusiastic young girls from 13 schools played off in the Girls’ Championships at the Salahuddin Sports Hall in Al Mamzar on Saturday 24 October to decide the teams to contest the Finals.

Students competed in three age divisions, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17, and a further 29 girls also took part in the Emirati Challenge which ran concurrently.

The six winning girls’ teams will be joined in the Championship Finals by the winners of the Boys’ Championships, as well as the Emirati Challenge winners.
