  • Some of the world’s greatest extreme sports athletes will be performing their greatest tricks at Al Gharbia that will leave the spectators in awe of the gravity-defying action.

Taking place at the public park of the Madinat Zayed City in the western region of Abu Dhabi, from tomorrow until Sunday, the Al Gharbia Extreme Sports Festival’s roster will include monster trucks shows, freestyle motor cross, BMX and skateboarding shows, super cars and a live music concert.

This will be no ordinary event.

Spectators will see professional athletes do bike flips 40 feet in the air covering a distance of approximately 70 feet in length as well as unbelievable skateboarding and BMX shows.

Among the participants will be world champions Nick Dewit (South Africa), Jamie Squibb (UK), Clive Featherby (Australia) and Rick Long (USA).

It’s the first time the festival is being in Abu Dhabi and Squibb says the spectators will be ‘amazed’ at what they see.

“The entertainment here will be as good as you ever see aroundthe world,” said Featherby, who will take part in the monster truck shows.

“This is the real deal. People who do come will be shocked with amazement. Everything that takes place will definitely be breathtaking.”

And Squibb, who has been competing in freestyle motor cross for 12 years, agreed. “All the riders will be full of energy. We will be riding the best we possibly can. It’s going to be an amazing show done by top riders. In skateboarding you will see people jumping 40 feet high, 70 feet in distance going upside down and doing flips. Everybody will be blown away.

“People should come and experience what this is all about. You can stand anywhere (in the venue) and see how high we go. It impresses everyone, and am sure everyone will be impressed with what they see.”

Similar shows have been held successfully in America, UK and Australian and Featherby is sure the event will live up to its expectations in the UAE capital.

“We have competed in America and Australia and coming into this part of the world is a new area to break into. This is a very important part of the world in terms of hosting sports events and we want to put on a fantastic performance,” he said.

The doors open each day at 16:00with free entry to all spectators.

The first show begins at 17:00 and the last will end at approximately 20:30.

There will be special section for families to enjoy the action as well as public seating and viewing areas.

With the festival proving to be a success in other countries around the world, don’t miss out on the extreme action that will leave you craving for more.
