  • Hugely popular: The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is a highlight of the Formula One season.

Ticket demand for the 2014 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been unprecedented, organisers revealed on Sunday.

Local and international demand has been such that tickets look like selling out well in advance of the Grand Prix weekend, which runs from November 20 to 23.

The number of tickets already sold, combined with the number that have so far been reserved by companies, tour operators and agents, means that 75% of all tickets are spoken for.

The percentage sales figures are all the more impressive given the increase in the total number of tickets this year from 55,000 to 60,000.

The Main Grandstand and West Grandstand are already almost at capacity, and seats in the Marina Grandstand are also filling rapidly, said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit. Both the iconic Abu Dhabi Hill area and the exclusive Paddock Club have had their ticket numbers increased this year to cope with demand.

“We’ve seen stronger demand than ever before across all sales platforms and ticket types,” said Al Ameri. “People know that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend is one of the most prestigious and exhilarating events on the sporting calendar, combining all the high-octane thrills of top-level motor racing with some of the best entertainment around.

“The event’s reputation has grown, along with that of Yas Marina Circuit as the perfect venue, so in that respect the sales figures are not surprising. After five successful previous events, people know it is going to be good – so they already know they want to be a part of it this year.”

Internet sales have been boosted this year by increased digital marketing and the introduction of new online ticketing solutions and platforms.

Customers can buy tickets through their mobile phones this year for the first time, and also directly through the purchase tab on Facebook.

Etihad Airways, the title sponsor, is also reporting brisk sales through its shops and international markets, while Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi have seen strong sales for their special visitors’ packages.

Al Ameri added: “The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend is well known as an event that offers great business and networking opportunities.

“Every year we are honoured to welcome guests from some of the biggest, most respected global companies and brands.”

Organisers are targeting 46 percent international visitors this year, an increase on previous Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekends.

The 2014 Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the final stop on this year’s F1 tour and, with twice as many points on offer for drivers, the championship is likely to be decided at Yas Marina Circuit.

The most exhilarating motorsport on earth will be complemented by incredible concerts from the world’s most famous artists.
