  • On the eve of the opening round of the 2016 GT Asia Series, Motorsport Asia Limited have unveiled a new partner who has a strong relationship with the region’s leading GT series. A former regular on the grid of the GT Asia Series, Francis Hideki Onda and TUNEWEAR have been a part of the category in the past, and after a brief sabbatical in 2015, they are back and will work with Motorsport Asia to develop a range of exclusive merchandise for the GT Asia Series.

A passionate competitor in a variety of categories, Onda last competed within the Series at Fuji in 2014, however he was forced to effectively ‘hang up the boots’ with increasing business commitments with his burgeoning TUNEWEAR empire.“It’s great to have Francis and TUNEWEAR back in the GT Asia Series,” David Sonenscher the CEO of Motorsport Asia Ltd admitted.

“We’ve enjoyed a fantastic business and working relationship with TUNEWEAR in the past, and Francis was always a passionate competitor in the GT Asia Series when he was running in the Audi. I’ll never forget the look on his face when he claimed the second placed outright trophy with Alex Yoong at Okayama in 2013, it typified just what racing means to so many of our amateur drivers.

“With the GT Asia Series really coming-of-age this year, we really wanted to step things up another gear, and an important part of that was developing a range of exclusive GT Asia merchandise, and the perfect person to talk to in regard to helping to develop that range, was Francis and the team at TUNEWEAR.”

During the 2016 GT Asia Series, TUNEWEAR will develop a range of GT Asia series products for fans and competitors, starting with an exclusive collectable Apple iPhone case which will be available at Thailand for the second round of the championship.

“We’re very excited by what the GT Asia Series has to offer this year, it’s going to be our best ever, with a range of stunning new cars, some impressive new teams competing against some of the best GT teams in the world who are already established in the Series, and a fantastic television package highlighted by our new association with FOX Sports Asia,” Sonenscher added.

The 2016 GT Asia Series will play out ‘live’ on Fox Sports Asia, and online. Details of the streams and the broadcast times will be available on the GT Asia Series website – www.gtasiaseries.com – and through social media; www.facebook.com/GTAsiaSeries will also post news, video clips, images and updates, and you can also get involved in the conversation on www.twitter.com/GTAsiaSeries

The GT Asia Series is sanctioned by the FIA as an International Series and is clearly recognised as the Region’s leading GT Championship. It is solely managed and promoted by Motorsport Asia Ltd and is backed by Michelin, KW Automotive, Motul, Race Room, Panta, YOFC and Tunewear.
