  • Two victories in Jordan: Sebastien Loeb (l) has twice won rallies in Jordan.

FIA vice-president Nasser Khalifa Al Attiyah is lobbying for Jordan’s return to the FIA World Rally Championship, and the Hashemite Kingdom could be back on the calendar as early as next year.

Al Attiyah, who is also in charge of motorsport affairs in the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA), is said to have told FIA bosses that bringing Jordan back to the WRC will serve to further boost the sport in the region.

FIA MENA region media coordinator Osama Al Mansour told Sport360° that negotiations to hand Jordan a round of the series were on, but was unable to say at what stage negotiations between the FIA and Al Attiyah had reached.

It was pointed out that a decision on Jordan’s inclusion would most likely to be taken at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council towards the end of the year, when the body meets to finalise the calendar for the 2015 season.

Jordan first held a round of the WRC in 2008, which was won by Mikko Hirvonen behind the wheel of a factory Ford car.

The Kingdom then held two more rounds, in 2010 and 2011, both won by Citroen’s Sebastien Loeb, the nine-time world champion who retired at the end of last season
