Undoubtedly one of the finest goalkeepers to ever grace football, Peter Schmeichel enjoyed what he claimed to be one of his best days in Dubai when he got behind the wheel of the F1 style Single Seater at the Autodrome.
The Dane is best remembered for his role between the sticks for Manchester United, where he made 292 appearances and amassed five Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and the famous 1999 Champions League title. Schmeichel also enjoyed success on the international stage, winning Euro 1992 with Denmark.
Schmeichel was in Dubai in his role as a Manchester United Ambassador; invited by club sponsor Emirates NBD to attend the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and to play in the Pro-Am.
During his stay in the Emirate, he made time for a visit to the Dubai Autodrome after being coaxed by long time friend and race instructor Michael Prophet to experience a race car on a race track.
"My biggest fear was getting Peter in the car. He is not a small guy!" said Prophet. "We fitted all 1.93 metres of him in beautifully. I was not worried about his hand eye co-ordination as he has proved that over the years, but his driving was excellent and he had a great day."
Schmeichel was put through the paces in an 'off the shelf' Single Seater experience which is one of several adrenalin infused driving packages available at Dubai Autodrome.
At the end of his on track adventure Schmeichel, boasting a huge grin, said, "Can't believe this fantastic track was here all along. It's brilliant. It's been the best day ever in Dubai and I will be back for the [Audi] R8's. I feel like big kid in the world's largest playground."
Licensed drivers have the opportunity to experience driving a variety of high performance, race prepared, cars under the expert tutelage and guidance of qualified instructors, on a FIA approved race track where safety is paramount.
