  • Fighting for the top position: Hamda Al Qubaisi overcame engine issues.

The Al Qubaisi sisters, Hamda and Amna, were on the podium in their respective categories in Round 11 of the UAE Rotax Max Challenge at the Yas North Handling Circuit over the weekend.

While Hamda was classified second in the final of the Mini Max category, sister Amna completed the podium in third place in the Junior Max class of the championship. The sisters are part of an eight driver line-up for Daman Speed Academy (DSA).

In the Mini Max category, Hamda overcame engine problems in the pre final which pushed her lower down the grid, but she executed some great passing moves to seal second overall in the final race.

Sem Knopjes won the category while Lachlan Robinson completed the podium in third place.

Meanwhile, Amna showed great pace in the Junior Max class throughout the day to classify in third place, her first podium of the season.

Taymour Kermanshahchi was the class winner. Her team-mate Saeed Al Ali also showed great form finishing just behind her in fourth.

DSA program director at Abu Dhabi Racing Robert Cregan said: “I am very proud of all the DSA drivers, their hard work and dedication is starting to pay off and I am confident we will continue to see positive results from the team in the final rounds of the season.

“I would especially like to thank Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management for all their support in the UAE Rotax Max Challenge which is the only national karting championship to be held on an F1 Circuit.”

The DSA was launched last year as a joint initiative between the National Health Insurance Company ‘Daman’ and ADR.
