  • Commanding performance: DPS Falcons U13 secured an eight-wicket triumph.

In the opening game, Devnath Menon’s thrilling 35 off 38 balls inspired DPS Sharjah to a comfortable 100-run win against Wesgreen Wolverines.

DPS elected to bat and posted 150-6 in the first innings. Man of the match Menon Devnath was ably assisted by Mohammed Owais Sajid (24 off 18) and Abhinav Dhawan (20 off 17).

Chasing, Wesgreen were unable to match DPS’ score. Some tight bowling in the second innings from Devnath (2-7) and Bokil Rohith (2- 1) skittled out Wesgreen for 50 in 12.5 overs.

DPS coach Vikram Dutt said: “It was a fascinating game. We asked for improvement and every week it seems to get better.

“The team is training hard and we are looking to be the best we can.”

The DPS team returned two hours later to defeat PAK Hawks by seven wickets.

PAK Hawks batted first and were all out for 105. Muhammad Aizaz Sajid (54 off 47) and Babar Khan (14 off 12) did the bulk of the scoring.

Some great bowling from DPS’ Mukul Anand (3-25) and Devnath (3-12) helped the eventual winners gain a foothold in the contest.

DPS responded by scoring 106-3 with Abhinav Dhawan (33 n.o.) and Devnath (17) the star performers.

“It was a really difficult task contesting the two games, but we are an ambitious team and we have the play-offs on our mind now in January,” said DPS coach Dutt.

In Dubai, Aryan Lakra was the star of the show again, collecting two man of the match awards in one day as DPS Falcons won both U13 and U15 games yesterday.

Lakra scored 54 off 49 balls as DPS U13 beat Indian High School Dubai by 45 runs.

In the U15 game, Lakra followed up that performance by remaining unbeaten on 42 against DC Sixers. He also returned bowling figures of 3-12 in the win over the Sixers.

DPS Falcons coach Prosanta Chanda said: “We are progressing well. The team is winning because we’ve built up confidence over the last couple of games.”
