  • It's the time to reflect as we look back on the year that was before turning our attention to the future and a New Year.

    While 2012 proved to be one of the greatest sporting years in living memory, the last 12 months have also delivered some spectacular moments in the sports arena where legacies were assured, history was created, and comebacks completed.

    With just weeks remaining until a New Year, it is time for you, our wonderful Sport360° readers, to cast your votes and reward the very best of 2013.

    It's been a mighty tough job, but we've created a five-strong shortlist for the Sportsman, Sportswoman, and Sports Team of 2013 and we are handing the power over to you to select the winners.

    All you need to do is select one from each category and press 'Finish survey' to register your votes. Voting closes on December 31 with results revealed on January 2. 

    If you're having a tough time deciding who to choose, here are brief summaries to remind you of each accomplishment:

    SPORTSMEN OF THE YEAR

    Sebastian Vettel (Formula One)

    The German won a fourth world championship, where he tied Michael Schumacher’s record of winning 13 races in one season. He won the last nine consecutive races of 2013, breaking Schumacher’s record of seven.

    Usain Bolt (Athletics)

    The fastest man in the world took his world championship gold medal haul to eight after taking home gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in the Moscow worlds.

    Rafael Nadal (Tennis)

    This year, the Spaniard came back from a seven-month injury layoff to make 14 finals of which he won 10, including two majors – a record eighth Roland Garros and a second US Open title – to return to No1 in the world.

    Cristiano Ronaldo (Football)

    The Ballon d'Or winner in waiting, the Real Madrid superstar is the best footballer in the world at present, scoring a shed-load of goals for his club while guiding Portugal to the World Cup finals in Brazil.

    Marc Marquez (MotoGP)

    The 20-year-old became the youngest ever MotoGP world champion, thanks to a stunning debut, and is also MotoGP’s first rookie world champion in 35 years.

    SPORTSWOMEN OF THE YEAR

    Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Athletics)

    In Moscow this year, the Jamaican became the first female sprinter to win gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in a single world championship.

    Missy Franklin (Swimming)

    The American teenager became the first woman to win six golds at a single world championships when she obliterated the field in Barcelona last summer. She now has a total nine world championhip gold medals.

    Serena Williams (Tennis)

    Williams went 78-4 in 2013, where she won Roland Garros and the US Open to take her singles Grand Slam tally to 17. At 32, she also became the oldest woman to hold the No1 ranking.

    Inbee Park (Golf)

    Setting new standards in golf, the Korean claimed three consecutive major titles, holding onto the world No1 spot for 36 weeks.

    Nadine Angerer (Football)

    The star goalkeeper captained Germany to the European Championship title this year, where she saved two penalties in the final, which Germany won 1-0 over Norway to lift the trophy.

    TEAMS OF THE YEAR

    Bayern Munich (Football)

    They became the first German team to win the treble – Champions League, Bundesliga (winning 93 out of a possible 99 points) and DFB Pokal – and beat Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup before adding the Club World Cup last week.

    UAE National team (Football)

    The Whites have completed a calendar year without suffering a single defeat. They kicked off the year by winning the Gulf Cup in Bahrain and wrapped it up by securing their place in the 2015 Asian Cup, topping their group with a 100 per cent qualification record so far.

    Miami Heat (Basketball)

    The Heat became the NBA’s first repeat champions since the LA Lakers in 2009-10, and the first team to beat the San Antonio Spurs in the Finals. They went on a historic 27-game winning streak, the secondlongest in NBA history.

    British and Irish Lions (Rugby)

    Warren Gatland masterminded the Lions’ first Test series success in 16 years with a 2-1 triumph over Australia. The cream of rugby union talent in the British Isles sealed the historic victory with a crushing 41-16 win over the hosts in Sydney.

    Mumbai Indians (Cricket)

    Sachin Tendulkar’s final year in cricket proved to be his most successful one with the IPL franchise he has called home since 2008. Mumbai beat Chennai to land their first IPL crown before making it a double success by adding the Champions League title five months later.
