  • (L-R) Gerrard, Hawkes, Loktionov.

Steven Gerrard is one of the finest midfielders to ever pull on the jersey for either Liverpool or England and he turns 36 today.

‘Stevie G’ played more than 700 games for the Reds during a 17-year stint, scoring 186 goals.

He was a driving force during some barren years but had his fair share of silverware too, winning two FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Cup and a memorable Champions League trophy in 2005.

Gerrard also won 114 caps for England.

Other notable sports stars born on this day:

1949: Bob Willis, former cricketer took 325 Test wickets for England. Became a commentator after retiring (67).

1967: Rechelle Hawkes, the Australian field hockey star won gold medals at three separate Olympic Games (49).

1976: Margaret Okayo, Kenyan long-distance runner, won multiple marathons, including three New York titles (40).

1990: Andrei Loktionov, Russian former NHL centre who won 2012 Stanley Cup with the Los Angeles Kings (26).
