When Jake Peavy does retire from baseball, he can look back at an illustrious career full of many career highlights and awards. Celebrating his 35th birthday on Tuesday, the pitcher is one of the standout names in MLB.

Since making his debut for the San Diego Padres in 2002, he has gone from strength to strength, playing for a further three clubs including his current side – the San Francisco Giants. In a seven-year stint with the Padres, he earned the NL Cy Young Award and Triple Crown in 2007, but success continued for the right-handed hitter.

As well as being named in the All-Star team for the third time in 2012, he finally got his hands on the big prize, the 2013 World Series, with the Boston Red Sox and again the following season with the Giants. His 1,348 career strikeouts remains a record for the Padres today.

Here are the other sporting stars who are celebrating their birthday:

1972: Antti Niemi, former Southampton, Fulham and Portsmouth goalkeeper (44).

1973: Dominque Monami, Belgian former tennis player, who won bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics (43).

1989: Bas Dost, Dutch footballer who plays for Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg (27).

1989: Marco Reus, attacking midfielder for Borussia Dortmud and the Germany national team (27).
