It was just a few months ago that Darren Sammy’s troops were celebrating their second World Twenty20 triumph in India.

Back on this day 41 years ago, the West Indies were again celebrating by becoming the first ever world champions.

Facing Australia at Lord’s, the Caribbean side came into their encounter having won all their games in the tournament. That form continued as captain Clive Lloyd smashed 102 runs from 85 deliveries as the West Indies imposed a challenging total of 291.

Viv Richards was involved in three run-outs and it was the fifth and final one that sealed a memorable 17-run victory on the longest day of the year.
