  • (L-R) INBEE PARK, SANJAY MANJREKAR, CHRISTIAN VIERI

At his peak, there was no argument that the Italian was one of the most lethal strikers in the game. Turning 43, Vieri played for 12 clubs before retiring in 2009. His most successful stints were in his homeland and in Spain.

With Juve, he claimed his first Serie A title and UEFA Super Cup and later helped Lazio to the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and Supercoppa Italiana. That earned him a £32m move to Inter Milan, becoming the world’s most expensive player in 1999.

At the San Siro, he enjoyed his best stint, netting 103 times in 143 appearances but could only win the Coppa Italia – his last title.

As well as claiming numerous awards including the Italian Footballer of the Year accolade, he stands alongside Roberto Baggio and Paolo Rossi as Italy’s highest goalscorer in World Cup finals for his country, with nine strikes.

    Here’s who else is celebrating:

1965: Sanjay Manjrekar, former Indian cricketer and now commentator (51).

1988: Inbee Park, South Korean golfer who has won seven major championships (28).

1991: James Rodriguez, Real Madrid and Colombian attacking midfielder (25).

1995: Luke Shaw, a footballer who plays at left-back for Manchester United (21).
